Default How does the front splitter attach?

Hi All:

I'm wondering exactly how the front splitter attaches to the front bumper. I've read that there are a number of screws holding it up. What kind of screws are they, and to what do they attach?

The reason I ask is that the license plate bracket that I'm going to install slips in between the splitter and bumper, and is held by the middle 3 screws. What I'm worried about is that the screws might go into U-speed nuts, which could get pushed back as I insert the bracket, and fall out. Mind you, I don't intend to just jam it in; I'll loosen some screws to each side, and use a couple of wooden wedges to hold the gap open.

Are the screws #19 and #22 in the pic below, or are they not shown? Thanks for any assistance with this.

Its attached with regular looking sheet metal screws (black) going into some U Clips that slide over the lip of the front fascia as I remember, and they are susceptible to cracking the fascia where they contact any road.

Thanks for that. Now I'll know to be carefully so as to not dislodge the clips.

You should be OK loosening the bolts without the clips moving, as they slide over a small portion of the fascia, and unless they get bent or deformed, they should be fine to reassemble without any issue.

Default license plate bracket

I have one of the brackets that you are talking about using. You just take the three center screws out and slide the bracket in and put the screws back in. I bought this bracket so I could use a bra on the car and I made it so I could put it under the splitter, but you have to be carful not to tighten the screws to much if you do this as it pulls down on the facia. I ended up going with a different kind so I can use the bra. But the one you are talking about was fine the way it was designed for. Good luck.
