that is unique. can it be rotated? its current position looks a little awkward. but that's just my preference.
my first car ( '64 olds cutlass ) had a powerglide trans. the shifter in that was a "T" style, while not exactly like yours, does bring back some good memories.
as long as you do not go pistol grip, it's all good!

I'm not that tall at 5'11" But it is how you like to grab the handle. To each his own. I must have adjusted it twenty times before I got it the way it worked for me. And I'll probably adjust it again.

I did the same thing with my Mach 1, just kept altering the angle until I could bang third comfortably. Everyone's seating position, arm length and feel on the handle will likely be different. Sorry if my post came across as your setup being wrong, there is no wrong for this stuff.
