iPod question
one time an old iPod nano gen 3 that would plug into the front of the
radio and into the iPod. It worked fine until the iPod went bad. I
purchased an iPod gen 7, with a different connection, but I got the
correct cable to connect it. The iPod does not work. On the iPod, it
reads it's unsupported.Anything I can do? Thanks
Also if your iPod has BT you could buy a BT dongle that fits the 3.5mm AUX-IN.

And not the one that plugs into the lighting port with the usb/3.5" male plug instead.
If you do want to control the Ipad through the radio, then something like a iSimple ISGM655 could be isntalled instead.
It gets installed between behind the radio, loops into the radio connectors.
The downfall, is if your don't have XM on the radio now, then the XM channel will need to be programmed into the radio with a Tech II once the Isimple is installed. Hence you will press the band button on the radio to toggle through am.fm, and come to XM, then the Ipad is paired with the isimple device via either blue tooth, or if you want to charge the Ipad at the same time, you can run a usb to firewire cable from the device to the ipad, and you can control the Ipad through the radio/steering wheel controls.

Hence the usb connector that comes with it, can be used to replace either the cigarette lighter plug at the ash stray below the radio if you keep the ipad in the cup holders, or the cigarette lighter plug in the center console if you keep the ipad there instead; to give you a USB connector at either location.
So the Isimple allows for both, to blue tooth into the radio on the XM band, as well as USB'g into the Isimple instead will charge the ipad as the same time.
Note, the nice thing with Usb'g into the Isimple usb port, the usb port does not stay live like the cigarette lighter plug when the car is shut off, so you don't end up draining the battery is you space out unplugging it from the cigarette lighter plug when you shut the car off instead.
Here you go, and if you were Denver local, could give you a hand to have it installed and up and running in about 45 mins (I have a tech II, so that is the hard part of battle since the dealers want to charge you about $125 for about 3 mins of work using one to turning the Xm band on the radio after it has been installed).

The cable posted by Dano523 works for my first generation original iPod classic (love that thing), all of my ipads, and a new iPod Touch and I have an 08 too.
For $10 a bluetooth adapter with mic is as cheap as a cable.
It doesn't solve the iPod issue but it is a simple solution that gives you more capability.
