Default C6 Plastic Cowl Differences

I have done some research after needing to replace my plastic windshield cowl for my 2007 Corvette. I noticed there were 2 different part numbers for the C6. The first part number (15822873) "design 1" is for cars build from 2004 thru Jan 2007. Part number (25778761) "design 2" is for cars built after Jan 2007. I found that cowl design 2 is much cheaper (over $100) than design 1 and wanted to know why? Come to find out the leading edge of design 2 is about 1 to 1-1/4 inch wider than design 1. Design 1 fits inside of the cowl tray and design 2 sits on top of the cowl tray, which requires a different rear hood seal. So if you have a car that needs design 1, you can save money and get design 2 with matching rear hood seal (25833949). Design 2 will fit all years. The picture I uploaded shows design 1 and you can see the rear hood seal sit on a ridge of the cowl tray. Design 2 sits on top of this ridge and the matching rear hood seal attaches at a 90 degree.

Something learned, I guess I got lucky when I replaced my 2008 in 2010 and got the correct replacement.

Great post...running design change info, cost savings...thank you.

So any idea why the change?

From the design change, my guess it was to make it easier to remove debris from cowl. Design 1 will allow debris to get into the cowl tray since it sits in it and not on top like Design 2.
