I bought a DVD map update from E-Bay....it was a "counterfeit" copy and it fried my system. I had Chevy Dealer try to re-program it and it did not work (cost $150.00).
My question: I found a used OEM system but it is out of a 2008 Vette and mine is a 2005.....anyone know if this '08 unit is compatible with my 2005?? My 2005 unit did not have XM radio...I would appreciate any help.
It will work but you will need a tech 2/dealer to unlock it.
The replacement radio will need to be matched to your car's VIN. Some Dealerships may require that you show proof of purchase of the radio/Nav before they will reprogram it.

Lost on how the Clone map DVD fried the system? The only thing that comes up is the radio could not read the DVD in the first place, and putting the older Nav disc back in should have solved the problem. If the deck could not read the old one as well, then it's a dust issue with the DVD laser instead.
As for the nav radio, did they try to re-flash its firmware, since this can be done with either Tis2000 that does not required the DVD to be able to read the disco, or if the DVD laser can read the disc, the firmware can be re-flashed with the DVD firmware re-flash disco isntead.
