Correct. There are a few X's still out there. Be wary. Colorado has none and there is no SWS systems in-place. There are a few counties that rely on X for various reasons but very very few. Most are using Ka at this time. Europe is still using Ku. LIDAR is mostly State Patrol due to cost. POP is almost discontinued due to unreliability.

FCC makes it illegal in Colorado for the MT-10 Blinder and other "Shifters". A few states are draconian in that effort.

Radar Roy ran a study on running high-beams instead of DRL and as long as you're not using LED lights which use a narrower spectrum you can interfere with the return beam signal. I'm not sure if it's been tested on our Xenons, I've never looked into it.

Waze, coupled with a good detector, and a laser "shifter" (Escort/Passport offers one) combinatoin, you should be good.

Be advised once you're within a certain range of a few hundred feet, all these measures are rendered ineffective. Your best chance is an overzealous LEO at far range.

I used to couple this witha Uniden Bearcat BCT-10 that would pick up the LEO if he had a comm repeater who was in radio-silence mode. He wouldn't have his lights on, use his radio, etc. but the repeater would bounce from his antenna from a further-off LEO away from the HQ. The distant LEO would use the "hiding" LEO's radio as a signal boost repeater and the BCT-10 would light-up like a radar detector. They've all moved to digital now and it's hard to determine because it shares Cellphone freqs. Uniden has not moved with the times on that front, bu they have a scanner that can be edited to only show police signals (but not distance).

Basically the ALPs (AntiLaser Priority) system "jams" the lidar beam for a few seconds allowing you to slow down. This is sometimes referred to as jam-to-kill (JTK). Then the LEO tries again and he gets a reading at a slower speed.

You have anywhere from 2 to four heads on the front of your car strategically placed in areas that would be targeted by the LEO, license plate, headlights or lots of chrome. A couple of heads would be receive only and one would be a transmitter. You can have the same arrangement on the rear. This is not a portable system and not inexpensive.

Default Laser

Because in Washington the laser is not used that much compared to K band you are not used to it but on my 9500ix it has a different sound more like a alarm clock going off or a phone ringing.
I got zapped with Laser the second time in several years of use just the other day by a WSP on a side ramp to the freeway and he was looking right at my car but by the time I found him there was no way he was bouncing it off the license plate unless they have a very wide angle. He was in the car with the door part way open. The 9500ix shows your speed when first hit and I was two less than the limit on I5. No warning at all so I assume he targets his prey. I recommend the 9500ix and I did get mine new but I bet you can find something used but a lot of the info as far as traffic light and speed control zones will be out of date. Costs money to upgrade that. The 9500ix will also learn spots where you get zapped by x or k signals all the time and will learn them and store the info and being not a threat will not bother you. Save your money and get more bang for your buck when you make the investment.
