Default Replacement window alignment problem - advice needed

I had the driver's side window replaced.

On occasion when I close the door, the window is not inside the track.

This happens on occasion, not every time. Most of the time it closes perfectly within the track, and of course, moves up into the upper part of the track, like it should. Window indexing is working just fine.

I obviously have to take it back to the shop, but what advice should I give them? They've had to adjust the window a few times, and they still can't seem to get it right.

Any advice for them?

I've replaced one of my own and marked glass with white out so I could return everything to its original position.if you don't pay attention during disassembly this is the result.there are two adjusters on the regulator and the glass is slotted so lots of adjustments are possible.all they can do now is keep adjusting. removing the door pads that often they will end up damaging the clips and push pins that hold pad to door.factory service manual says to replace after 2 removal's.tell them you want them to reseal the plastic covers they removed on the inner door so you don't have water leaking into car later.if door pull starts pulling away from door while attempting to close door you will know they have now buggered that up also.no one seems to look after your car as well as you do yourself.had a bodyshop replace one and made 3 attempts to repair.I ended up taking it apart myself for a permanent repair.good luck with it

You have the wrong shop. Unfortunately, if they can't get it right after several visits, your answer to the problem is to take it somewhere else where they DO know what to do. Irok's description above is very good and helpful!!!

You're right, thanks Irok.

I took it back in today and they made a couple more adjustments while comparing the position of the passenger-side window. I had to give a lot of feedback. I even read them Irok's post after telling them I consulted with an "expert" LOL.

In the end I think we've got it right.

The plastic clips seem to be in fine shape, despite the door panel having been taken off a dozen times. Everything seems to be held in firm place.

This was my forth visit to this shop. They first installed a flawed aftermarket window. It turns out there's only one aftermarket manufacturer, located in China. And all the windows have the same "dents" in the glass, and they all look terrible. In the end, he used a new OEM GM window for $350 out-the-door.

He said that he's installed many Vette windows. And he is a 4.5 rated installer on Yelp with hundreds of reviews.

Oh well, it's just another instance of dealing with the uniqueness of owning a Vette
