Ed, haven't read such a funny retort in a very long time 'round here.
Even if true & I leaning right into a stiff right hook, it made me LOL.

That’s the worst when you forget compression checking first. I have a infrared heat gun but I’ve found most engines with proper tools and compression check is fairly fast. Any misfire and I go straight to plugs first to read cylinders. Next is compression and then work backwards. Easy to say that afterwards though.

Update. Swapped out 8 of the 16 springs. (One of which was the broken spring) and the problem is solved. Engine sounds like a beautiful monster again. Thanks all!

Pictures of the fix:

your setting yourself up for this to happen again if you don't change them all.may happen again tomorrow, next week or 5 weeks from today.just listen for the sound of it dropping a valve every time you drive the car.new engines are not really that expensive anyway are they?

Outstanding!!

Have to agree w/ above though, my friend.
As long as you were replacing broken spring might as well replaced them all. Really best way to insure, or at least greatly minimize, this doesn't happen again.
File it under: Penney-wise & dollar foolish.

Think of it this way...[a] fuel pump goes south.
After going through the aggravation & great labor dropping tank there's still another pump which just might crap-out also.
So replacing both at the same time only makes sense to justify going through that PITA to start.
*BTW, this actually happened to a member recently.
Replaced one pump only to have to repeat entire process when other failed.

Upside's if one or more of the old springs go south again, and assuming it doesn't really trash engine this time, at least you're well familiar w/ symptoms. Won't be chasing you tail & losing sleep.

In any event, BIG congrats.

I am swapping them all. I started with the 8 on the side of the broken spring to confirm this fix would work and solve all problems.
