If you don't know for an absolute fact the battery in the fob is fresh and strong, get another battery. A great deal of the time it IS the fob battery. Buy one at an auto parts house. They sell more than other sources and, consequently, order more.

I have to somewhat disagree. You are correct that you should get the freshest you can. But WalMart sells a lot more of them than an auto parts store would. But get them near the checkout and not with watches or electronics in the back. There's nothing special about these batteries and the one specific to the FOB is used in thousands of other devices.

I just wanted to point out that some batteries have been on the shelf a long time. I went thru 3+ years of fob problems because I bought old batteries, several of them, and have been feeding these batteries to my fobs all this time, and have had nothing but problems. Only a month ago I bought fresh batteries when I had used up the handful I bought in the beginning, and the system works perfectly. And, I will not stockpile any more batteries. If my fob needs a battery, I will go out and buy two, replacing both fob's batts.

I'm not gonna drive to WalMart a 10 mile round trip when there are 4 auto parts stores within a 2 block area and a Walgreens 2 blocks from me and they sell a ton of the 2032 batteries.

And I totally agree with that. I was just pointing out that an auto parts store might have 5 year old batteries compared to Wal-Mart that is going to go through them in weeks because of volume.
BTW, I never replace a FOB battery until it shows signs of failing. The key gets you in and the FOB in the slot gets you to Wal-Mart. I have better things to do than remember when was the last time I changed that battery because they may last in a FOB for 10 years or more. Or they may not.
