HELP! Check Engine Code
So, my check engine light came on and I drove to my local auto store to get a code reading.
It came back....
Evaporative Emission Vent Valve Solenoid Malfunction
Has anyone had this issue? How serious is it and what should be my best way to get it repaired?
Thanks in advance for your information.

Could be as simple as a bad gas cap.
Or it could be the vent solenoid. Somewhat common. It might help if you provide details about the car and the actual OBD code that was reported.
If you're a DIY'er here's a thread with info and also links to more threads with pics:

I've had that for over a year now and can't cure it. 2 replacement gas caps and 2 replacement purge valve solenoids.
You can clear it by disconnecting the negative battery. But it usually comes back on in a couple of weeks.

My guess is a bad gas cap. I bought a NAPA and went to the local dealer who sells seals and just replace them. A lot cheaper than buying a couple caps a year.

The valve was bad on my car. Replaced valve and all is well since.

I got the code P0449 a couple of weeks ago, did a quick search and found this thread as well. Helped me out immensely, love this forum, there is a wealth of knowledge and information here! 😎
