Default 2008 Corvette gear shift
Having trouble with 2008 shifting to drive from park...it works after number of tries.

Search for Shift pawl lockout and/or Shifter bearing failure or shifter cable failure.
All you ever wanted to know.

I doubt it's the shifter cable. Once that goes, no amount of starting will make any difference.
