I recently read where cars can be stolen by using relay boxes to capture the signal from a fob and then use that captured information to steal the car. Apparently the signal from the fob is sufficiently strong to be picked-up from outside the house. Are Corvettes affected by this issue? If so, is there any remedy other than keeping your car in a locked garage?

 

We put our key fobs in a metal tin (old candy tin) at night to prevent the signal being relayed.

 

It's been discussed here many times.s Don't worry about it. No reports of it EVER happening to a Corvette.

 

If someone wants to steal your vet, it's going to happen, plain and simple.

Hence the fastest way to steel a vet, is to just grab it with a flat bed tow truck and drive off with it. Hence how many times have you seen a flat bead tow truck with the cars alarm system going off, and no one thinks a second thought about it. Also, if you are in export shipping area, within a hour the car alarm system will disabled, and it in cargo container to be shipped abroad and resold there. Hell, in CA, any car over 10 years old can be stolen from the states, and taken to Mexico to be re titled with the same vin number to be sold there isntead.

So bluntly, make sure you have full coverage issuance, and it will cover all the mods/adds on that you added to the car instead.

Hell, worse then being stolen, is someone breaks into the car, and does enough damage to it , that the insurance company just writes the car off instead.

Think about that, since most C6 base cars are selling for $20~$35K, but where $50K or more brand new, and and if new parts are needed to repair excessive damage to the cars dash/seats/ other items like the door and window as well, not hard to get close to the used value cost of the car for the needed repair costs, for the insurance company to just write the car off as totaled instead.
