I have a 2010 coupe, manual transmission, with 90k miles on it. I have noticed a steady knock in the engine while idling for several months. I know the injection system has a slight repetitive sound but what I am hearing is a steady, regular low level knocking sound that most people don't notice. Because of my mechanic background I tend to pick-up on sounds that I know are not normal. I purchased the vehicle from an individual and I am somewhere in the neighborhood of the third or fourth owner. There are no previous maintenance records so I have little knowledge of past maintenance or possible abuse but it runs great, looks great, no leaks, and seems to have been cared for by prior owners. I usually take it to the local Chevy dealer for maintenance but I have not been happy with their customer service lately and would like to find a good Corvette mechanic to check out the knock. Any suggestions for a mech in Fort Worth, Texas is appreciated.
Thanks
Jim Allen

For peace of mind you could send for a scientific oil analysis kit from these folks. The sample test results will give you an overall view of the condition of your engine and the quantity and type of contaminants found in the oil will also give you a clue as to where and what a potential problem source is for example iron, aluminum, chrome, copper, lead, tin etc.
You could also try to locate the source with a mechanics stethoscope.
Where is the oil pressure at idle when cold and warm?
does it make more noise at start up?
Thanks for the reply Farmington - cold idle oil pressure is 40 psi. Hot idle oil pressure is 27 psi. It was making a little noise at start-up but when I returned from my drive to heat it up there was very little noise.

Thanks for the reply Icecap - I will check out the website.
I had a tick tick sound coming from my base 2010 which is different from a knocking sound, I know. But after checking for a day I finally wore down and took it to a dealer who said it was a lifter and wanted $2,300 to fix it. I got a second opinion. The second place found #2 spark plug LOOSE! They checked it and the threads, reinstalled, no problems since. Yes I was lucky. Something to check. Maybe......
Good luck.
Thanks Vet, I know what you mean about the clicking sound and finding a loose plug. Always good to check the simplest and easiest possibilities to correct. I’ll be checking that too. Thanks again!
