Yep! The 1.5 ton aluminum jack from Harbor Freight for $58 on sale is the most popular. Used one for years. If you are raising the car from the side use jacking pucks and you will be fine.
Any of you folks ever lift the front by putting a single jack in the center of the front support as shown below by the red arrow ?
Yep....done that many time. I use a section of 2x6 on the jack pad to spread the load.....never had a problem. Just remember to use jack stands before doing any work.
I have jacked up the car using both methods....under the front, then under the rear, as well as under a jack puck on the side. The chassis is stiff enough that you can jack up one side and it will lift both wheels off the ground. I prefer the front and rear method as you can get two jack stands in place at a time.
Thanks for the diagrams - hmmmm and the photo reference. I've been wondering about the same too, will be needing to get the car up to do my first oil change this summer. I really miss the jack points on the 944 turbo I had - 3 jack points on each side. One in the center, allowing me to put stands under the other two... then jack up the other side and put stands on that side. So easy.
