Am I correct that I can take my newly purchased key fob #2 to my Chevy dealer and they have a way to program it to my car so all the functions work??
I'm sorry I know this is addressed all over this site - but it's challenging for old guys like me to deal with this "High Tech"
stuff - lol.
I also know there's directions to DIY - but I think I would have another stroke trying to do it!
Thanks -
I just followed the following instructions found on this site. Just print and follow step-by-step and it should be fine.
Adding Key FOBs to C6 Corvette:
This procedure will add key fobs. Fobs will be numbered in sequence based on when they are programmed.
This procedure requires that you have a known good key fob, a replacement key fob, and the vehicle's mechanical key.
1. The vehicle must be off.
2. Open rear compartment 3. Place a known key fob within the interior of the vehicle. 4. At the rear of the vehicle, insert the vehicle key into the rear compartment lock cylinder, located above the license plate and cycle the key 5 times within 5 seconds. 5. The DIC will display: READY FOR FOB X (X = fob 2, 3, or 4). 6. Place the replacement key fob in the glove box fob pocket with the buttons facing right. 7. A beep will occur and the DIC will display: READY FOR FOB X (X = fob 3 or 4) or MAX FOBS LEARNED. 8. If programming additional key fobs, repeat steps 5 and 6, or press the OFF/ACC portion of the ignition switch to exit programming mode. 9. Operate the active portion of each key fob in order to verify correct system operation.

To answer your question, yes. Take fob #1 with you as well, so that they can both be programmed in the correct order. Many folks have done the programming themselves, but do what you are comfortable with.
I just did it myself the other day. Super easy and took less than 2 minutes. And I'm 70!
Here's the thing: Yes, the OP might be able to do it himself, but using the short procedure will result in the FOB being either #3, or #4, depending on how many know FOBs are already in the system. Or, in the worst case, if there are already 4 known FOBs, then his can't be added in unless the long procedure is done. If he is OK with it being #3 or#4, then he loses the ability to store driver preferences associated with that FOB. Likely, the only way to get the new FOB recognized as logical unit number 2 (to match the number on the bottom of the FOB) is to go through the long procedure. Just my .02 worth.
EDIT - I suppose it's remotely possible that there is only 1 known FOB at this time, and it's unit number 1. Could have happened if both FOBs were lost, and only one replaced. You never know. In this case, the short procedure would work to yield unit #2.

Would be kinda hard to drive the car there without it.
I have a 2007 and wanted the newer key fob. I did the short procedure first making the new fob number 3. I then decided to do the long procedure, making the new fob number 1. Again, very easy and took about 35 minutes .

If I can do it most anyone can. And I’m lucky I can turn my laptop on.
Thank Gosh my iPad powers up on its own lol.

Followed the directions - the DIC messages never can on - tried several times - no go.
When I bought this car last Saturday the #2 Fob was missing (from the factory was there a Key with #2?) - so I asked the service dept how much for a key fob and programed - $180 for the key fob - $35 for the programing - this is at my Stealership!
So got on EBay - bought a NOS for $85 buck! Then went to the Stealership service dept - they said I need to go to Service - I thought OH OH? - sure enough they need a hour an $100 buck!!
So I left to review my options on here - I need a drink - maybe 2!!
I think I tried 3 times before the DIC came on. You have to make sure the key goes all the way over when you turn it.
Well I wondered about that possibility - and was going to try this again -
questions - should the window be down - yes / no?
engine running - or accessory on?
I tried several times to use the in car system to program my spare key with no success.
In the end I purchased a tech2, FOB programed to no. 3 .
No. 3 & 4 have some restriction compaired to 1 & 2 , but does the required job , ie unlock and start engine etc.
Owning a c6 I have found the Tech2 very useful
I only have experiance with one c6, and spent a lot of time researching the programing the FOB.
There is a lot of BS out there to sort through.
I believe
If your car was produced for US sale then you need FOB 1 to use the in car system.
If the car was produced for sale in Canada then you need FObs 1&2 in the car to use the in car system.
I only had FOB 2 when I purchased my car , I think that is way I could not get the in car system to work , to program my spare FOB

AFAIK, the car ships with 2 keys - #1 and #2. That is one of the things I checked before I signed the contract at the dealership. They only had FOB #2, and I wasn't going to sign unless they came up with #1. The sales guy wrote it into the contract - no price change, and that's what they delivered. Ultimately, a return visit was necessary, because they just added in the #1 key, so it became #3. They fixed that up too. I should have read more about it on this forum, because I probably could have saved myself the trip, and done it myself.
Maybe there's someone near by who could help you with this - the forum has lots of members. Also, there may be a Corvette club nearby; one of the members there might be able to help you if you still can't get it to work yourself. And I agree - the dealership price borders on criminal.

I had the windows open are car shut off. I opened the hatch, then turned the key five times.
