I purchased a low mile 06 Z06 (22k) and everything was fine while driving the car home from the carrier drop off. Then the Bose stereo started crackling, popping and the sound went dead (no sound), even though the radio still displays radio stations and CD's still play. I figured the amps blew after reading many complaints on the Internet. I don't plan on keeping the car long so I don't want to upgrade the sound system, just want to fix it.
So I locate a Corvette wrecking yard that has a working Bose system in an 08 Corvette. I purchased the amplified Bose subwoofers for the doors as well as the multi-channel amp for the other speakers. Install the amp and speakers and find the sound is still dead?? I checked the 30 amp fuse under the hood (#31) and find it to be good. Somebody said there was perhaps another fuse (15 amp) under the passenger floorboard but I found no blown fuses at either place. Is it possible the head unit has gone bad even though it still displays all the radio stations, volume and plays CD's? Very frustrating!

When you say the CD plays. Is there Sound coming from speakers ? Quality of the sound?
If you do have sound using the cd. And no sound otherwise. I’d say the head unit has an issue. And if your getting sound with the CD player then the amps good. As are the speaker.
But if no sound while cd is running I’ll sounds like head unit after replacing the amp
The only piece left is the head unit. With that said, it is entirely possible for the radio to appear to be working correctly and have the outputs shot. Most head units are pretty resilient, but electronic none the less and therefore subject to failure. If you plan on selling soon, you can't go wrong adding a nice double din unit.
Follow the instructions in this thread I started and if there is a problem with the audio system the radio might tell you what is wrong with the system. Sorry should have mentioned you need a nav unit to display audio error codes.
Thanks for all the replies guys. I took the car into a dealer today and the diagnoses is, the radio has no output sound (dead), even though the CD and radio still show they are operating. So my next step is to find a good used radio/6 CD head unit. I'll check on this site to see if one is For Sale.
