Made an emergency key
I wanted a key to carry around either on my key chain, or in my wallet. There was a post that suggested that a B106 blank would work, but they are too wide. Thickness is OK. 5 minutes work in the vice with a file, and I narrowed it (took same amount off both sides) to be the same width as the keyfob key. I took it over today to a key cutting place, and just tested it in the hatch lock. Works like a champ. I've got a third fob now, so I'll add that in, put it in an RF bag, and keep it in the car. Maybe I'll get one of those magnetic boxes, and hide the key on the frame somewhere. And since it didn't happen if there are no pics:
B106 blank (reduced in width). Also has GM37 marked on the back.

Can't tell you that exactly; I just compared the two keys by laying one on top of the other, and judging how much to remove. The key is symmetrical, so the same amount needs to taken off the top and bottom. I'm guessing about 1/32" off both sides. Best to take a little less and work towards the correct width. The key blanks are chrome plated brass, so once the thin layer of chrome is gone, they file very easily. I should have mentioned that I put a piece of electrical tape on each vice jaw at the top, to protect both the file and the jaw. My vice has hardened jaws, so it would have dulled the file if I hit the jaws. To be honest, this was a 1 on a scale of 1 to 10 to do - very easy.

Maybe. If so, for the earlier fobs that had a separate key, it might be the correct width, and need no filing. I have nothing to compare it with. I do have 3 more blanks, so if someone else in the club has an earlier C6, I'll try to remember to compare them.

When I first tried to get the key cut, the guy couldn't get his machine to work with the wider blank. So, I shaved the blank, and then it worked. I thought the machine would just cut off the excess, but his wouldn't. Guess I started off at the wrong locksmith, but in the end, I got what I wanted.
