So much for a clean Carfax
A bad day
My go cart 😎
Perhaps I cursed myself. I ran a Carfax on my car the other day because I am thinking about selling it. Clean one owner car. Until now. I had the car parked in the overflow parking at work which is public and came back to a destroyed left quarter panel and damaged rocker. Hit and run. Insurance is handling it and the fix is simple but I am still pissed.
I have a 94 Miata I bought to toy with and it has now been pressed in to daily driver duty. Talk about a change of pace! Honestly though having a go cart that gets 33 mpg and goes topless is not all bad

Really sorry to hear about your misfortune.
Yup, the left rear quarter panel (fender) is an easy fix ... but, I am not so sure about the damage to the rocker panel on the bottom.

An accident won't necessarily show up on a Carfax. I don't think anyone really knows how, why, or who reports some and not others.
I would never do this of course, but hypothetically speaking, you could trade it in right after it leaves the body shop and before it shows up on Carfax? There must be some lag in between I would think.

My son got rear ended yesterday by a blue hair in a Buick. In February he got bumped at a stop light and the lady drove off and the cops and insurance wouldn’t do anything even though he had pictures of the plates and called the police. Like you, he was debating getting rid of it. Clean charger scat pack. Bye bye resale.

Wow! Looks to me like all that damage was from a tire. I see rubber on your wheel and fender. Maybe a big lifted truck could have done that and never touched anything on his body. If done for spite? Just wondering, you know how some folks can be.

We checked the cameras. They don’t reach the overflow lot. I suspect it was a lifted truck as all the transfer was from a tire. The mark on the wheel cleaned right off and no damage. The rocker is crunched though. If not for that I would have probably fixed it myself.

I had someone, in a smart car of all things, hit me in a roundabout in my truck, and they left the scene. No damage to my truck other than some smart car paint got rubbed off on it. I went ahead and reported to police because I didn't want the idiot that hit me to call it in later claiming I fled. Anyway, I buffed the paint off my truck and headed straight to the dealer to trade it in. I didn't want to take a chance on a $2K-??K hit on my resale. Not the most honest thing I've ever done, but dealers have bent me over plenty of times.

Trading w/ a dealer requires signing a doc swearing everything on trade-in questionnaire is true.
New owner learns post sale car was presented in bad faith/misrepresented & surely pitches a fit w/ dealer. Even hires a mouthpiece for some muscle.
Dealer examines all docs developing a timeline of events proving a fraud has been perpetrated upon them by seller. No question about it.
Fraudster's served papers to appear in court explaining 'discrepancies' or pay requested damages.

Fraud's an issue w/ that idea.

Rear fender is a snap to replace, as well as the rim and alignment checked, but the rocker panel is going to be a pain in the **** for the guys to replace instead.
The rocker panel looks bad enough that it should be replaced, which means chipping the old rocker off, then gluing in a new one. So due to this one, take the vet to a GM repair shop that specialized in vet repairs since it's a lot of work on the rocker panel to replace them correctly.
Also, hit your insurance company up for depreciated value, since your going to hit with such when you go to sell it, and the repair shows up on the service history report.

What I do know is the dealership I worked at didn't have any forms like that and the many cars I've traded in at several dealerships also didn't have such a form either.
As already stated, the odometer statement is required for car sales less than ten(?) years old.

Been filling out questionnaires on my trades, for years.
In fact traded a black vehicle. Front rubber bumper cover had faded, easy to see against black hood/fenders.
Guys appraising it asked when car was in an accident vs my statement it'd lead a clean life. Thought they'd trapped a scoundrel, regular Perry Masons.
After 30 mins going through front end using a fine toothed comb & flashlight they finally accepted what I'd swore to, it faded.
But, they vigorously checked because they certainly weren't going to get stuck w/ & reselling it w/ any possibility it isn't what it was sworn to be. New buyer suing for misrepresentation they can easily prove is just bad business and here, it's a felony involving the state.

Appears TX law differs quite a bit from WI's.

If you pay for it out of pocket it doesn't flag Carfax... But that's going to be a big repair bill.. Anything over 500 bucks paid by the insurance company flags the Carfax,,, so I've been told by a very reputable shop ..
