Default Help me

Ive recently been looking into a 2012 with an accidentreport. It seems to have the bumper misaligned from looking at the pictures. What should I look for when i go and test drive it? https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/inventorylisting/viewDetailsFilterViewInventoryListing.ac tion?sourceContext=carGurusHomePage_fals e_0&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity =d1&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity 2=&zip=60073#listing=200499201

posted link is dead, but pull the carfax and Gm service history report to get an ideal of any repairs on the car, if it was wrenched, and maybe even if the car was written off the insurance company for it begin wrecked/flood car with it be a salvage, rebuilt title car isntead.

Also, do your due diligence, since they are a lot of totaled flood salvage cars on the the market right now being sold as clean title cars since the paperwork has not caught up with the titles yet (skip title'g and all that).

Dead link. I assume you are considering a 2012 with an accident report is because you are trying to save money. If not, I would pass for a clean report vehicle. What are the specifics? Base, GS, miles and asking price? If you could tell the bumper is not aligned correctly just from a picture, I would question the quality of work that went into the repairs, especially the stuff you can't see.

I would recommend looking for a Corvette specialist in your area. Sometimes they will inspect a car at no charge. Maybe a Corvette Club member in your town would be willing to check it. Otherwise, you can get a Chevy dealer to inspect the whole car and you can have them put it up on a lift to see underneath. They will charge about 100 bucks but it might save you thousands in the long run.

Definitely was in a wreck, and personally I wouldn't buy a car from anyone that would install headlights like that.

Take a closer look under the bumper and radiator area to make sure all pieces are straight, no broken plastics, pieces, all screws are there etc. Also look for marks on body panels from removed and replaced bolts, nuts etc. Inspect the steering wheel area where the airbag is for marks of replacement. Since it was a front impact most likely, you can tell how significant it was by whether or not the bags deployed. You can also take it to an alignment shop and have them check the alignment and give you the print out.

That misaligned bumper would drive me crazy. The top corners of these bumpers should attach to clips that are secured to the fenders. In this case it looks like they are not so that is why it sticks up on the corners.

Like others said, do your due diligence. If all checks out and it was just a fender bender, then no big deal, other than the person doing the repair was a horrible installer. Use it as a bargaining chip and fix it at home.

Either the two little clips are broken ($10 for a bag of 10) where the front fascia clips down right there at the corner of the lights or they just didn’t clip it down when they did work to the headlights. I have a broken clip on mine right now that I need to replace so it sticks up slightly in the inner corner.

I would pass on that car, who ever painted that front bumper didn’t install it right. Also, to my eyes that shade of white on the bumper seems to be off from the rest of the car.

I can't speak more to the car than the images show. But I have looked at a few cars on their site, and these people are . . . Characters. They specialize in gaudy cars, for people who can easily overlook a suspicious history. Their preferred customer sees a Corvette and bright red interior- since you are looking for quality, I would pass.

When I chatted with a gentleman (loosely) there about one of their vehicles, and told them they wanted too much for me to even drive out and look, he immediately went to challenging my budget and manliness. Pricing thousands over average before factoring in a wreck, on a car that sat over a year. They want someone [who] only sees a badge and "status," you are the wrong customer.

I noticed that before I noticed the damage. White is not hard to blend in either so I would wonder what crappy work is below. The price is about right if it didn't have damage. As is that is a low $20k range car at best.

It shows an "Accident Check = 1" and yet it also shows that it is listed at a 'normal' price range. This should be significantly reduced. I wouldn't pay that price for that car. An accident will devaule the car every time. No matter what you do to fix an accident, it will be worth less than an equivalent car without an accident. Therefore, apples to apples comparison, this one with a reported accident should be reduced in price.

...another car...

You don't yet have enough knowledge of Corvettes to conduct your own appraisal of a car involved in an accident. Cars.com currently has 173 Corvettes, 2008 to 2012, under 50K miles, with CLEAN titles. Why buy a problem when you don't have to?

Someone went to a lot of expense to add a bunch of trinkets and bling, which some will like, and some won't. But, then did not get a correct repair on a bumper...strange. Also, the price is high for that car when in good condition, IMO.
