Hello everyone, this weekend I am changing the rears struts on my C6 2007 Coupe. I heard that after I replace them, that I would need a rear tire alignment, is it true ?
If you remove the shocks without disconnecting the A arms etc (research zip tie method) you can pass on the alignment unless your ride height changes. Shocks are gas pressurized and new ones can raise ride height. Measure to the top of the wheel arches before and after. If you aren't confident that you have a good alignment before, it would be good to get one after. A bad alignment will shorten the life of your expensive tires. If you get an alignment, drive with the new shocks for a few days first to get it settled in.
it shouldn't need an alignment. New shocks made a difference in my ride. If you have OEM shocks, all 4 could be due a change. But it shouldn't require an alignment, even if they disconnected the suspension but left the shims where they were.
OTOH, if you haven't had an alignment in a few years, I would go ahead and do it after I got 4 shocks installed. I got Bilstein B6 for mine. The installation ran almost as much as the shock, so I wouldn't skimp.

Be sure you get the right part. Corvettes do not have struts. If someone is selling you struts beware. You can change the shocks without changing the alignment.
