Default Physical difference between an LS2 and LS3?

Other than the fuel rail cover, are there any noticeable differences just by looking? There was a post awhile back, 2 weeks ago I think, a member got duped.

Head casting numbers would probably be a quick tell although it is possible to swap LS3 heads onto a LS2. I'm not sure if there's a part number or casting number/mark easily visible on the block. I know the blocks are marked 6.0 for LS2 and 6.2 for LS3 but it's usually hidden by accessories or transmission.

Markings makes sense. Maybe visible if the car was on a lift.

Think the air intake/air filter housing is different.

Wouldn't the model year be the key indicator?

2005 - 2007 = LS2
2008 - 2013 = LS3

What if someone put an LS2 in a 2008+ with an LS3 fuel rail cover?

Visual differences depend on the year of the car too, assuming it had the original engine with the original accessories, regardless of the frc's. Even years of LS3's have external differences.

you can't go by heads because some 6.0's came with ls3 style rectangular port heads.
there is a cast in size on the front of the block either 6.2 or 6.0

Throttle body is a bit different. LS2 is bottom right, LS3 is middle right. Notice the location of the electrical connections.

The intake manifolds are different. Look right behind the throttle body flange

The MAF is different.
LS2 MAF you can see connected to the air bridge over the radiator and before the accordion style rubber tube.

The LS3 and LS7 MAFs are built into the airbridge. You can see it plugged into the airbridge just before the accordion style rubber hose.

I got this from another posts " You should find a 9 digit number stamped or laser etched - on the left side rear of the engine block. The last 6 digits of this number are the last 6 digits of the Vin. you may be able to figure out the rest. ". If the vin number matches the block number you can assume the correct block that came with the car.
