Other than the fuel rail cover, are there any noticeable differences just by looking? There was a post awhile back, 2 weeks ago I think, a member got duped.
Head casting numbers would probably be a quick tell although it is possible to swap LS3 heads onto a LS2. I'm not sure if there's a part number or casting number/mark easily visible on the block. I know the blocks are marked 6.0 for LS2 and 6.2 for LS3 but it's usually hidden by accessories or transmission.
Visual differences depend on the year of the car too, assuming it had the original engine with the original accessories, regardless of the frc's. Even years of LS3's have external differences.
you can't go by heads because some 6.0's came with ls3 style rectangular port heads.
there is a cast in size on the front of the block either 6.2 or 6.0
I got this from another posts " You should find a 9 digit number stamped or laser etched - on the left side rear of the engine block. The last 6 digits of this number are the last 6 digits of the Vin. you may be able to figure out the rest. ". If the vin number matches the block number you can assume the correct block that came with the car.
