I'm not asking this to be a swizzle stick. I want to be educated in some of the options available and how they could/would be obtained. I'm on C6, so that's where the question would apply. I have an '07 Z51. I know the brakes are not "Z51", even though that's what most people call them (they are J55 - right?). When you ambled into the Chevy dealership and checked the Z51 box, what options would you automatically get just by checking that one box? Could you get a sort of Z51 if you checked all those option boxes without checking the Z51 box. I know, seems counter productive, but could it be done? Was the Z51 completely replaced by the Grand Sport when it came out, or could you still get a "regular" coupe/convertible with Z51, maybe by checking all those boxes?
As pointed out above, the Z51 option package has an complete upgrade parts package of many items on the car, that there was not option packages in other forms to pull off the full Monty buy selecting individual parts options instead.
As for the GS model (actual model and not just a option package like the Z51 option package on the base car) was in 2010, and the last year of the Z51 option package on the Base car was 2009. So gm did away with the base model z51 option package after 2009, and the GS became the step up package model from the base car in 2010 , hence wide body with a Z52 parts isntead.
As for the Z51 package base car and the GS model from 2010 forward, these cars are factory built for autocross (and/or for low to mid speed road course work).
The Z06, Z07, and ZR1, where factory built for high speed road coarse work instead.
