Well I knew the day would come but I've always said if you take care of a battery it should last. I just replaced my original ACDelco after 8 years of service. It gave me no warning and started the car fine one evening to go to a cruise night and when I decided to leave later that night I hit the start button and click! Fortunately a guy there had one of those little lithium Ion booster things (gotta get one of those) and it started first try. Hard to believe those things pack enough energy to start a car through the little cables and clamps. When I got home I charged the old battery over night and all I got out of it was 10.5 volts so I'm guessing a dead cell.
Wow. 8 years is great. I'm on my 4th year with a red top optima, and down here if we get more than 2 or 3 years out of a battery we're doing good... when not in use it's on a C Tek.
I had two of those OEM batteries that only lasted 23 months each and both split open and spewed acid into the engine compartment. You did exceptionally well.

OOOOOH split! Hope that doesn't happen to mine , it's in the back. I looked into the Optima and others before replacing it with another ACDelco. I'm partial to the Interstate brand but a guy I know at a GM dealer is shop forman talked me into the Delco. He said they're performing very well over the past few years. Oh well it has a 30 month warranty and free replacement within the first year so I'll give it a chance.
You did great for sure! I got six out of my original. I replace every four or five years now. My '05' doesn't seem to have much drain at all, even after two or three weeks.
My battery started turning over the starter slower one day, so I replaced my four year old battery with a new AC/Delco. I believe if you replace a battery when it starts giving you issues, it's a waste of money to buy jumper cables or boosters. Why stress yourself out nursing along a battery when you can just buy a new one?
You beat me.....I did pretty well though at 7.5 years....my original lasted from Fall 2007 until I replaced it in May 2015 as a precaution before a long trip. It was still fine at the time...just didn't want to take a chance far away from home. I had a SAAB 900 once and the original battery lasted 10 years.

Since I moved back to Canada from California I don't drive my Corvette in the bad weather and the battery tender is hooked up whenever I anticipate not driving it for more than a couple of days. It stays hooked up for about 5 months every winter. This might be why I've had good luck with the life of the battery. Boy I miss washing the car in January.
Replaced my 31/2 year old OEM battery yesterday, car started to slowly crank, not taking any chance's to be stranded and the mercy of AAA for jump.
Smart man.
Mine was slowly cranking over a months time frame, so I bought a new AC/Delco. The battery died on me when after I got back home from picking it up at the dealer because they wanted to charge me $26 to install.. I shut the car off in the driveway, and it wouldn't restart, just click. How's that for timing?
Got 4 years and 10 months out of my ACDelco. Dealer wanted $50 labor to swap. Went to the Interstate battery store and bought one. Guy told me the dealer actually put in a lower amperage-rated battery. Maybe that's why it failed to soon. Dealers! Geez!
