Does this look stupid?

Burning Brakes
It only makes sense after you explain why it is there. Otherwise, it looks like it is just there to make the car "look fast".
IMO, the only time it should be on there is the 1/2 mile drag strip where it needs no explanation.

Yes it should be in the 165 to 170 mph range. If you go on You Tube and look up Shift Sector there are plenty of videos. Plenty of Corvettes with parachutes hauling *** on airport runways. Looks like fun.

Don't those half-mile events have stickers for participants? Put a bunch of stickers from your events on the side of the rear glass. They'll figure out why the chute is there.

Taking a poll here. My car is modified, supercharger, big cam, 750 horsepower to the wheels. I want to strech its legs, see what its capable of, so I'm setting it up to do 1/2 mile events. Racing it on closed airport runways, flat out. Part of the gear is a parachute. I go to car shows quite a bit and put the chute on for a few of them and get mixed reviews. Some look at me like I'm nuts and some think its great. I have the only modern car with a parachute at any of these shows. What do you think. Should it stay or should it go?

Thanks for the compliment! The brakes stop on a dime .I guess I always wanted to see a chute open up behind me in the rear view mirror. I have lost track of how many holes I've drilled in my car.

What are the thoughts/comments at the shows with the chute?

Thanks 87SAM! Cherokee Nation at the Texas mile, that's moving for sure. The fastest I've been is 129 mph on a country road. I just want to top that by 40 or so. I've got a bunch of aerodynamic fixes to do first, just so things don't blow off the car. I've seen shut down areas at these events look short, but I show up at party's over dressed sometimes. The first event I'll learn a ton. Owc6 the consensus is a resounding no on chutes at car shows.

I like your mods and it looks better without the bag... keep that for the track when you need it for function.

If it makes you feel safer, that's all that matters.
But, in reality...it's not needed at all and complete overkill. I have a 650rwhp C5Z and do 1/2 mile events running 164mph. With another 100rwhp, you might be hitting 170-172mph. I've been to a few different 1/2 mile venues and there is always more than enough room to stop, and I'm using OEM brakes and OEM pads. Just do a general brake check before you go, bleed your fluid, make sure you have more than enough pad material, and you're ready to rock. I've watched 1050rwhp Hellcats (185mph) stop fine without a parachute. Have fun!

Is the chute required for 9 seconds in the 1/4? I thought it was required for 150 mph in the 1/4. Maybe either?
I was at Zmax dragway a few weeks ago and a guy (in a Mustang) ran the 1/4 in 8 something at 150 something mph, no chute. He only ran once I assume he got kicked out.

If you like the look,,then that is all that counts. IMO, at car shows, I'd remove the chute and stick a in the body hole legs first...... you'll get lots of attention and chat over that...

I already cant go anywhere without somebody wanting to race me. Every kind of car you can imagine. Once I hear a car reving next to me, it was an Armenian in an old Camry. He was completely serious. I let him win. I'd imagine he'll tell his grandkids about that one.
