Default Crank Pulley Bolt Socket

I am in the process of troubleshooting an engine noise and want to do a leak down test. Need to rotate internals using the pulley bolt but the steering rack is in the way. Hoping to avoid removing it so wondering if there is a special tool or someone has fabricated one to do this? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

pull all the plugs and the serp belt and the engine should rotate pretty easy

That would be the plan. I have an Innovation West harmonic balancer and since the pulley bolt is recessed and the steering rack is directly in front of it, I can't use a socket ratchet combination to turn it.

put the back wheels in the air, put it in 6th gear, and rotate them. plugs out and belt off will help.

Had considered that but didn't know if that would work with my auto trans.

My bad, I automatically assumed you had a mn6. Don't think that would work then.

That's OK, I do that assumption thing quite often, lol. I'm thinking of using a short socket that will fit in between the bolt and the steering rack and a piece of square rod with the right length to allow it to also fit that space, as I slip the socket over the bolt it will push the rod out and I believe there would be enough surface so I can use an open box wrench with an extension. Maybe?

Yeah, plugs is a definite. Can't really bump the starter because of the push button starter. Strap wrench may be the best option if I can't put together a socket tool. Thanks!

it had better be hardened steel, or it’s simply going to twist. I forget what the torque is, but it’s a bunch..

pull the plugs, put trans in neutral, leave the serp belt on and rotate the engine by placing a socket on the alternator nut.

Thank-you, never thought about that. I'll try it. It may be a problem because I have a supercharger with twin separate belts and the alternator is driven by a small common pulley.
