No One has a Clue
This topic is worthless. I've been reading it for more than a year and haven't got one good piece of info about the C6. You guys are just going to have to wait.....tooo bad, it's like kids waiting for Christmas.

Nonetheless, as the guys said above, it's still fun to speculate. I'm sure this board will erupt once spy shots come out.

...and yet there's been plenty of interesting information on developing technology posted here.
- aluminum hydroforming
- 42-volt electrical systems
- camless valve actuation
- composite sandwich box framing
- ceramic brakes
...and lots of C6 information from diverse sources has passed through this forum -- most of it beaten to death and buried in opinionation, but it's here nonetheless. Most of the sourced info (not guesses) published by the automotive magazines was floated here first.
"One good piece of info?" Okay, your standards are perhaps too high, but here's one:
C6 will have fixed headlights.
:-)

Re: No One has a Clue (Ramsack)
Some things sure:
Smaller foot print, shorter and a bit narrower to satisfy the European tastes. Serious attempt to balance European tastes with American expectations.
Bit longer wheel base and combined with the above, the wheels out to the corners a bit more. XLR has repositioned stearing assembly and engine cradle to handle Northstar. The longer wheel base on the C6 will probably have a steering/cradle arrangement unique for the pushrod V-8.
Same basic architecture as the C5. Capable to going to 3000 lbs and 500hp if so desired by GM without radical changes in architecture, mainly through substitution of materials. Probably cost driven decisions on the weight.
Focus on the perceived quality of the interior.
Not so sure:
Standard engine of 6.4 to 6.6 liters, probably 400 + hp
Performance engine of 450 + hp
Current engine architecture capable of going to 7.4 liters according to Dave McLellan.
Enough technology on the shelf to drive a person insane trying to chose. Most serious contender is the two cam in block with separate controls for the intake and exhaust.
Really not so sure:
Styling theme and execution

McClellan speculates in his book that the C6 will need a longer wheelbase than the C5 to accomadate a 5 Speed Automatic tranny. :yesnod:

The caddy has already comfirmed that. Now might it be a 6 speed?

Re: No One has a Clue (kegger)
John T. (I bin ...) has a nice start on the list for something I have said we should do together. That is, lets keep a running list of what we do know.
My editing of his start would be:
(so said by Lutz)
Not so sure:
Standard engine of 6.4 to 6.6 liters, probably 400 + hp (the standard will most likely be 6 liters and 380 HP)
Performance engine of 450 + hp (I keep seeing 425 HP for the 2006 Z06)
Current engine architecture capable of going to 7.4 liters according to Dave McLellan.
Enough technology on the shelf to drive a person insane trying to chose. Most serious contender is the two cam in block with separate controls for the intake and exhaust. (This makes too much sense to me. I am afraid it will be cylinders on demand rather than this. Variable valve timing should give better emissions, mileage and power, although the 15 HP bump for the Caddy 4.6 sure seems miniscule.)

Re: No One has a Clue (needhlp)
"Rumors have it 2004 z06 425HP"
_______
Perhaps you are right. However I don't see how they could get it at 5.7 liters. About the only thing left is more cam and I would expect that to cut into the MPG.

I've got a bit of a clue, here's my interpretations. (This is the first time I've been in a forum, so I hope my images come up. Disregard this if they don't.)[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Re: No One has a Clue (Ramsack)
I actually have a relative who's a GM Engineering Exec in Detroit... and recently I tried to pry some info from him on the new C6. He was very tightlipped about any specifics... I couldn't tell if it was because he didn't know or he was just being hush hush....
Anyway, all he could tell me was... yes the new C6 will be manufactured in the same plant in Kentucky, hinted at the new XLR, and they're dropping their daily production numbers from 35 cars a day to 16... he seemed oddly excited by the mere fact that their daily numbers are going to be dropped... I just assumed it's because of better quality... but who knows...
