Default Brake Dust

Just got this car a couple weeks ago, only driven it about 150 miles and the wheels look like they havent been cleaned in months. What pads should I go to, to help this not happen? Its a 10 GS.

Any good ceramic pad will vastly cut down on the brake dust providing you do not track the car. Ceramic pads, clean wheels, seal, wax and maintain, that's the process.

Had the same issue on my 2011 Camaro SS. Went with Hawk Ferro-Carbon pads and that took care of about 99% of the dust. Best pads around.

Brake dust is an unfortunate downside of performance pads. If you bought the car to not drive like a sports car, ceramics can work. If you bought it to drive like a Corvette, use a wheel protectant and learn to live with it. There are some compounds that make less dist than factory that are still performance pads, but ceramics are not them.

Highly recommend Powerstop carbon ceramic pads. Got them for my Z06 and the brake dust is almost non existent and braking power wasn't reduced by much at all. Couldn't stand the brake dust with the stock pads. Would turn my competition gray wheels to almost black in a couple weeks.

I always have to laugh at threads like this,I have had my 10' GS since new, never had a problem with brake dust simply because I don't drive a dirty car and I wipe my car down at the end of the day. I'm running OE semi metallic padletts. Keeping your car clean, makes it easier to keep clean.

^^^^ This.
My cars never make it long enough between washings to make a noticed difference. Three of my 4 cars have black wheels, one with Chromies. The Chromes on my GT are the worst, but those too will be black someday.

For a high quality low dust aftermarket pad I recommend the Carbotech 1521 pad 100% made in the USA. A low dust pad that is rotor friendly and performs like OEM and last longer. 100% non-corrosive dust will not harm your paint or wheels. This pad also contains NRS technology. Carbotech uses NRS technology on all C4, C5, C6 & C7 front and rear brake pads. Here is a link to explain further what NRS technology is exactly: https://www.nrsbrakes.com/about/

If interested I will be happy to help you out or you can order online here http://ampdautosport.com/brake-pads/corvette/

Carbotech™ Bobcat 1521™ The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non-corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

I'm with NSF and others for Auto Zone pads.

My '11 GS would dust up the wheels in as little as two days of normal driving. Since I don't have time to wash the car every other day, I chose to go that route. The Duralast also don't squeal like a stuck pig, which the OEM pads did after just a few days after a wash.

Another vote for Carbotech Bobcats in the 1-piece form. My "padlets" dusted like crazy on my GS, and it drove me nuts. Problem fixed with the Carbotechs, and actually had better braking power than OEM.

I agree. I've been very satisfied with Hawk HPS one piece pads on my GS.

Same here. Carbotech's virtually cut the dusting by 95%.

Yes! On the backside only, with scotch bright also! Been doing it since 2012.

I used Hawk HPS pads on my 99Z28. Low dust, low noise, easy on the rotors, and better stopping. A win all around.
They will be going on my Corvette when its time to replace them.

Padlets are mentioned through the these post. What part is that? I’ve changed drum break pads also disc brake cars,
I never heard of a part padlets. Just a old guy wondering.
