One of my front shocks on my 2008 C6 appears to be leaking some oil. My first call for replacement socks quoted me $2000!!!!! Seriously?? $2000 for 2 front shocks!! Can anyone out there give me an opinion on the best replacement choice for front shocks, and a reasonable place to purchase them? Thanks!!
I just checked those Bilstein's out, and confirmed your price and availability, thanks for the info! Unfortunately, I have the "Sport and Track Mode" button on the center counsol, so this will require the higher costing adjustable shocks. The price being quoted to me is $1000 per shock not including installation. Just wondering if there's anyone out there that can get those shocks cheaper? The rear shocks are still good, so I guess I could just go with the fronts and save a little money? However, sure would like to do all 4? Please advise?
Yeah...If you want to keep your Mag ride it's going to cost you. You can convert to conventional shocks. It really depends on how you use your Vette and the ride your looking for.
Before you spend a lot of money to replace perfectly good shocks, make sure you check out the threads and TSB related to this. It could be just normal.
See this related attachment and do some searching on here for the F55 shocks.

You have the F55 shock option, which is known as "magnetic ride". You need to give us more info when you ask a question, like, how many miles are on the car? It is not unusual, nor a sign of damage, that the mag shocks get an oily coating. Wipe the shock off completely with an oil remover, and see how it looks in a week. Those shocks generally go over 100K miles easily, unless someone does not know that the dealer will say they are leaking, even when they aren't. Don't worry about them yet...they are likely fine.
Ditto, wipe the shocks off, and check them in a week again.
If you do have fluid on the shocks in a week, then wipe the fluid off with a paper towel, and put a magnet to the fluid on the paper towel.
The fluid in the MRC shocks has fine iron partials in it (how the shocks control the fluid to change the dampening in the shock), and if the fluid does not stick to a magnet, it's not the fluid from the shocks!!!!!
Also, the pogo test on the fender to check the shocks dampening, does not work when the shock is not powered up.
So if you want to test a corners of the car by pushing it down, and then see if it bounces for shock tests, the car has to be running for this test.
So unlike other standard shocks that can go bad in 50K with there dampening stack washer getting worn out, the MRC shocks do not work like this, and are known to last over 100k miles isntead.
If these are the "mag shocks", there have been several posts here mentioning that dealers have been trying to replace these shocks with a little weep for high dollars. IIRC, these the factory has put out a service bulletin advising that a little weeping is normal and not a need for replacement.
If the car rides and drives well and the select function still works, I'd ignore it.
I replaced my conventional shocks with Bilstiens. They're a good replacement at a good cost but nothing spectacular.
