Considering longtube kooks and catted pipe. I’ve read that with the e40 Ecu in the 05 cars that if all o2 sensors are in place the car will not throw a code without a tune where other model years will throw a code. Can anyone verify? I will likely have to wait a good bit before a tuner is close enough to see.
What ive read and kind of understood is that the 05 only requires that the rear 02 sensors register a signal back to the ecu and if connected will not present a code where later years the rear 02’s perform a more involved function
not sure where you're based, but if in California, I haven't found anyone offering long tube headers.
the state will not allow them, as they feel they put the O2 sensor, too far down stream to work effectively
I'm pretty sure that the rear O2 sensors main ( if not only ) purpose is to check, the readings of the front O2 sensors.
they do nothing to control the ecu settings.
I got put the wringer on my previous ride ( '98 Z28 ). running long tube headers, out of date CARB sticker for the K&N air filter,
questionable cat's, missing purges solenoid on the gas tank, disconnected ERG ). took me 8 months to get it to pass.
California keeps you on your toes!

E40s are unique in that they do a startup voltage check to verify the rear O2 sensors are completing an electrical circuit. Later model ECUs do not do that startup voltage check. So, if your O2 sensors are missing on an E40, then a CEL will be set upon startup. Plug the sensors in and place them in the pipes if available. If not, then tie wrap them in an out of the way place, plugged in their sockets. After startup, rear O2 sensors do a periodic check (Check request from the ECU) using a low threshold, to ensure the Cats are doing something to cleanse the exhaust. You still might see a CEL eventually, but that can be tuned out. First try just plugging them in and tying in an out of the way place. Tying them somewhere in proximity of the exhaust is better as the heat helps. That's where they're supposed to live anyway.
I’m going to have locations after cat in the mid pipe provided so I would like them plugged in and in line of the cats. I would hope the rears will see the readings coming after the cats is cleaner than the readings from the primary 02 sensors and not create a error code....hope. And will I need extensions for the rear 02s or is there usually adequate length there to reach?
you might want to consider the OBX catted long tubes as they r less than 1/2 the price, fit perfectly and make as much power as anything out there.with the money I saved on them it paid for a new ported Fast 102
Will throw code. You could try O2 spacers I've had success with those on non-Corvette cars throwing cat below spec codes. Or turn them off with a tuner like HP Tuners.

The first thing I did in my 05 was gut the cats and it threw a code the next morning. I tuned them out after a cam install and now I have no downstream O2's at all with my twin turbo setup and still no CEL.
