Default C6 427 question

Looked at an 08 C6 A6 coupe today. I’m will never be confused with a Vette expert but the car had 427 badging on the hood. Asked the salesman and he was non -commital. I looked at the vin and it is an LS3 and looking a bit more, it looks like only a SE ZO6 that year had the 7.0L... is that correct?

i am not considering the car for many other reasons. I am just curious. I doubt the dealership has a clue so I don’t think they are trying to scam anyone. The badging and black hood stripe were as weathered as the rest of the poor car is.

If that is the picture of the vette you are looking at, then it is not a 427, at least not from the factory. The only vettes that year that came with a factory 427 was the Z06. There are VIN checkers online and assuming that is where you got your LS3 info, then run away from that car. Something smells a little fishy like maybe the dealership got fooled and thought they had a 427. And yes, I owned a 2008 Z06. Great car in many ways. One other thing, there was a Will Cooksey special addition Z06 that year but ALL Z06's had the 427 every year they were made.

what I suspected. If they, the dealer think they have a 427, they are pretty dumb.... so possible then I guess :-). Not purchasing, I am still driving C5’s and C6’s to get a feel... so I will know when I have found my Corvette. This car looks pretty sad up close. Swirls from stem to stern , ashy grey window moldings, faded badges, tires are toast. Back rest handle came off in my hand when I touched it. Paddle shifting allowed only upshifts. Ran fine, stopped fine, tracked straight and handled well. Thanks for the response.

The other easy sign is there are no automatic 427s, they’re all manuals.

Many tell tell signs its not a Z06, but someone could have put a 427 in it anyway...its just not a Z06. No rear side gills behind doors, small tires and wheels, no big brake calipers (should be red) and rotors (drilled), probably no scoop in the front, has a removable roof, automatic (paddle shift). VIN will also reflect it as will the label inside the glove compartment.

Just look at the top of the intake manifold - an LS7 has fairly flat runners whereas the LS2/LS3 are more rounded.

Just some kid that owned it before and thought 427 emblems looked "cool" on it .... Same as he thought those skull stickers on the side of the car were "cool" and made it look fast.

You can bet the farm that this base Corvette has been rode hard and put away wet !

Wouldn't it be something if this base car does in fact have a 7 liter motor? Didn't come from the factory that way but did anyone actually look under the hood?

Hey, don't worry about the emblems being fake. I've had several people look at those emblems on my car and ask why they're on there. Yup, "well, it's not really a 427 in it, is it?".

Goes both ways.

Anything is possible (I have an '05 A4 with an LS3), but given the other decals, I would say poser previous owner.

I'm surprised the dealer didn't at least spiff it up better, though. It's doesn't take much to at least clean everything, wax and black all the rubber properly.

It appears to have the "Cooksey" SE hood stripe and badge of 2008. Bad clone attempt?

It's NOT a Cooksey. It's not even a Z06. There are no side vents on the car. No Z06 badging. Let's settle that point right now. Here's a Cooksey edition. Wheels, vents, badging. Obvious. I hate posers.

I think that point was settled over a week ago.
