hi all!
I’m looking to buy a vette to keep for maybe a year or two, I’m looking at a nicer lower mileage c5 or a higher mileage c6. Stick only. Price range in the teens. Probably base or z51 coupe. Maybe a vert. Definitely a stick.
which do you think would deprecate less in a year?
I have been shopping recently and there is not much period in the teens. However I am looking at C6s. Since I was in last (2016) the C5s have really dropped. I have seen a few nice C5s in the Teens which if you get in at 15 maybe, it can't fall much further if well cared for. Sticks are hard to find (my area anyway) and I'm not sure how that relates to value, perhaps a good thing for the right buyer. I have not seen much if any C6s in the teens except for one really good auto nearby. If you could find a C5Z I would think that might be your best bet if your primary focus = less depreciation. However I find that an odd first priority. Market is unpredictable as you know. My 2c anyway.. Have fun in your search.

I haven't heard of too many people that are really worried about the depreciation of the Corvette they are wanting to buy. So any answers to your question could be all over the place. As with most cars, depreciation is determined by many things, with of course mileage being one of the main drivers. Then of course condition and desirability. So will a low mileage great conditioned C-5 be worth more than a high mileage ratted out C-6....? Thats subjective to the buyer. Good Luck with your search.
If you go with a C6 expect to pay north of 25K for one that isn't a piece of crap. You probably are more likely to find a C5 closer to your price range.

Keep saving and coming from a C5 to C6, 6 is better in every way. High teens is going to be a challenge for you unless you are buying a high mileage example. Convertible will be even more money than a coupe.
As long as you do the right research and don’t overpay a C6 or C5 should depreciate around the same. I personally think the LS2 C6s are a great value. You get the upgraded interior and you can find them in the high teens low 20s with relatively low mileage and in good condition.
I owned a 02 C5 Vert and currently own an 05 C6 Coupe... Not sure what YOUR definition of low / higher miles is - its different for everyone. To me, anything under 30k miles is LOW miles and above 60k miles is HIGH miles for a Vette...but that's me.
The C5 is an amazing car for sure...fast, sexy, handles great - the full package. The C6 just adds a bit more improvement in almost all categories... The C6 is MUCH more comfortable, but I must say that I thought my C5 "felt" faster"...
You can definitely get a C5 in the mid teens - convertible will be high teens / low $20s... I paid UNDER $20k for our 05 C6 with 45k miles (again, that may be low or high miles to different people)...and its fully loaded (1SB with ride control)...and I think you would agree (see picture), its in show condition... In terms of depreciation - the C5 will depreciate a bit less cause its older and the values are pretty much leveled out... The C6 still has some "fluff" in its value and will go down when the C8's come out cause they will be two generations old...and values will then hit bottom...(similar to a C5 vs. the C7 - two generations old).
Good Luck - either Vette will bring you loads of enjoyment...
