Default Headlight Lens replacement question.

All

I am in the process of changing the headlight lenses on my 2005 C6 Corvette. I am at the point in the process where I am going to put them in the oven to "bake" to soften the adhesive holding the lens to the housing. My question is, should I remove the wire harness, the rubber covers for the ballasts, and all the bulbs before I put the assembly in the oven, or are they ok with the heat they will be subjected to? Those who have successfully done this, please let me know as common sense tells me they should be removed, but if they are ok with the heat, it will save me the extra work.

Many thanks,

Glenn

I removed all the "extras" just to be safe that nothing got too damaged. My opinion was that there could be latent damage such as making stuff brittle, even if it did not show any problems such as melting.

Check out forum member RLSebring website for instructions, I bought my lenses and gaskets from him and am very pleased with the results.

I'm using his instructions and the lenses I bought from him. I did not see anything mentioning removal of the "extras".

I bought my lenses from Sebring, and followed his instructions. I did remove everything that I could see, including the wiring harness.
BTW, If you remove the 3 long assembly studs, make sure you mark where they go and pay attention to how far they are threaded in, if mot bottomed. They all have a spacer, and these may be different thicknesses for headlight alignment as you took out the lights.
I forgot to do that and had to re-align the lights after I re-installed them.

Ok, got the old lenses off and the new lenses on,and clamped while the adhesive/sealant cures. Not too bad a job at all, just a PITA getting the old sealant bond to break to loosen the old lenses. Gonna let them cure 24-48 hours before I put them back in the car. Just to be on the safe side, I removed the wiring harness and peripherals while the units "baked"

Good Job. let's see a pic of the new lenses when you get them back on the car.

The factory sealant is a pale yellow/white color, and I used 4 of the "trigger" type wood/metal clamps around the perimeter of the lens to hold it in place for 24 hours while the sealant cures. I've attached the great instructions I used in case you do not have them.

Thanks for the info, i got 3 clamps like that now , so I might get a few more so I can replace both lenses at the same time. I got a day set aside to do.
