Ok, this may be an off the wall question, but here goes anyway.
I recently replaced my headlight lenses with the great repros from RLSebring. I now have the old lenses sitting in the garage and an idea came to me. Could one use a GOOD headlight polishing kit and polish the inside and outside or the old lenses and make them look good enough to keep as "spares" just in case they are ever needed? Better yet, has anyone ever tried this on old lenses.
Yes, I was able to fully restore my headlights to look like new. Took a lot of elbow grease and the better part of a day but they went from bad to brand new. I used wetsanding blocks along with Mothers Headlight restoration kit and am very happy with the results. I'm glad I didn't go about replacing the covers or replacing the lights altogether before giving this a shot.
My old ones were cloudy on the inside as well as the outside, so they needed replacing. Gonna give it a shot on polishing the old ones when I get time just for grins.
If the lens are cloudy they could be polished, however if they have the small lines that resemble cracks they are toast. There are several theories on the little line cracks such as ultraviolet light or age affecting the plastic.
