I have a 2008 base automatic. I bought it new. I have 12,500 miles on it now.As you can see, I don't
drive it much. I went to my dealer and they said I have carbon build up . Which is the best gas to use
to get rid of this or does the dealer have to do it.
Thanks.
Your car isn’t even broken in yet . Dealers will try to sell you all sorts of services but you shouldn’t need them now. I run Chevron on my 2008 and have done so since new. No carbon yet and it has 60k miles on it vs your 12.5k. Google “top tier fuels” for other fuels recommended for your car.
LS2, LS7 and LS9 needs fuel with an octane rating of 93 for the motor to run its best. LS3 only needs fuel with an octane rating of 91 instead. Hence higher than needed octane fuel is not going to make the motor have more power on the stock tune.
As for fuel, find a top tier fuel station, since they have cleaners in the fuel that will keep the fuel system clean.
On the rare occasions that you buy gas, what are you using?
When you do drive it, how far do you go? A couple miles every once in a while or starting it in your driveway for a few minutes is worse than just letting it sit in your garage and never starting it.
Are you having any drivability issues? How did they determine you have deposits (edit) “build up”? And where is it?
What does the dealer want to sell you, a “fuel induction” service?

Doesn’t seem to be any more derailed than any other thread? What are we missing?
You did get to his point in post #8.
"Carbon build up" is a phrase that I haven't heard since I was young. I suspect this is mostly "rural myths," but supposedly it happened when old men and women dogged a car around forever, never revving the engine much above an idle, and somehow causing carbon to built up in the combustion chambers. The supposed cure was to take the car out and beat the crap out of it, or "blow the coke out."
So the OP said the dealer told him his car had carbon build up, and I'm wondering how they know this without taking the heads off. I suppose in severe cases (if it's even possible) a compression test would show it being higher than stock. I was hoping someone would actually address this part of the OP, as I have no idea what goes on with modern engines, but nobody responded to it.
So I'm still curious: Is it real, or is it Memorex?
^ Ok, got it. Sounds like a service writer preying on the innocent most likely. Even though there is a right way and a wrong way to use a garage queen.
I took my Honda Accord from OKC to Galveston and back for a cruise vacation. My car got better than 33 mpg all the way until....
There's a chain of gas stations in Texas called Buckee's. Sorta small version of South of the Border or something. I'll tell ya, my gas mileage fell immediately when I filled up there. I mean it barely broke 27. Now that I have new gas in it, I am getting 35 with my Christmas trip.
Man that is crazy.
Tells ya there is something wrong with that gas, it's expensive too.

"I went to my doctor, and he said I have something wrong. I don't know why I went, and did not ask him what is wrong". Makes about as much sense as the original post.
So, why did you take it to the dealer in the first place? And, did you ask him how it got carbon build up? Why are you assuming it is gas-related? Have you normally used cheap gas in the car?
I am not trying to abuse you, or your post, but you need to understand that the more info you give, the more you will benefit from the answers. Good luck, and I doubt there is anything wrong with your car, though that is just a guess.
When I went to the dealer for an unrelated issue, they took it upon themselves to check ALL the fluids. They said that is what I needed. I never told them to do it. Thanks to everyone that resonded. My vehicle drives fine, no problems. I don't get on my car. I don't drive that way.. I know I should drive it more, but I just go to car shows with it. That's my thing.

LOL, so now we know they were just BSing you: They could tell that it had "carbon build up" by checking the fluids? Attachment 48332405

I wouldn't go back there, ever.
Bruze is spot on, jay, and thanks for giving us more info. That is a dealer ploy used to make you feel like they are going out of their way to be sure everything is okay. In fact, they are looking for anything they can use to tack extra cost on.
Don't feel bad about not driving it much. You like the car, and whoever buys it when you are done is going to love it.

1250mls a year is your problem, not the gas, try getting it above 30mph some days!!!!

None. Use Techron in a can which is a concentrate of what you need.
