Overheat
Question guys. I was driving my 2011 c6 today for about 1hr and the air temp was 72 degrees. When I pulled in the drive to let my wife out I felt the car surged a bit and the electric fans came on. I looked and it was running a little hot and when the fans came on it cooled right down. Is this right. I have had the car for about 2 months and have never heard the fans come on but the temps have been in the 50s and 60s.

Some numbers would be helpful. Miles on the clock? Water temp? Jealous of your 72 degree climate. However, it was 50 here in WC Indiana today. Our 2011 IOM GS coupe will warm right up to 200 degrees in city traffic. These cars like to go fast.

I find the temps go up and down rather quickly depending on driving conditions more so than outside temps, Mine seems to run just about the same temps summer or winter, maybe a little cooler in the winter but not much, it goes up in traffic or slow driving, pulling grades and then goes back down when moving along at speed. I've seen it get to 217 max in traffic. And the a/c vent system is always on auto

Parades are the worst. Everyone wants us to carry them so they can be seen on a Corvette. One of our club members bought a '61 vert this Summer. First parade and she boiled over. "I feel the need for speed!"

The only reason I was worried is because I have done the same thing that I was doing yesterday and had no problem. I was just concerned that it was not that hot out and I dont think it should have run hot in the first place. I had just drove about 4 miles at 65 mph and turned into my neighborhood and drove 2 blocks pulled into the drive so my wife could get out and the fans came on high and I looked and it was at about 215 to 220. I do thank you guys for the response and the advice.

Nothing to worry about. Your fans kicked on and cooled the car down. So the ECM is probably programmed to kick the fans on at about 215/220, I assume.
If I remember correctly, on the C5 the fans don’t kick on until coolant temp reaches 235. And this is the factory setting.

Don't know if its been mentioned but check to see if you picked up anything that could be blocking the underneath air flow that would affect the radiator Like a paper /plastic bag

There is no problem. Heat soak from lack of air flow to assist in cooling. 220-225 is no problem as long as the fan does come on and the temp can be lowered successfully. Don’t worry about it, the engine is big, and will run hot when it basically idles for an hour...once the oil temps creep up from idle speed the coolant tends to creep up as well...so on come the fans

What you are experiencing sounds completely normal to me. When I'm stuck in traffic with high ambient temps, the fan keeps the coolant between 221 - 223F, and that's with a DeWitts rad.

I'm confused. But, as it has been said, that's what the electric fan is there for...to cool things down when there is insufficient air flow.
