Howdy! I just picked up this C6 a few weeks ago (my first domestic v8 toy, and loving it so far...) but this faded weatherstripping is absolutely driving me nuts. I've been looking for a replacement for it but not having any luck. It's hard to tell on some of the OEM part sites which piece it is, if it's an interior or exterior piece on their diagrams. Has anyone had to do this or know what part # or have a link by any chance?
On my C5 I had similar weather stripping pitting/fading, so I lightly sanded and wiped with iso-alcohol and sprayed with black bumper paint and probably achieved about 95% prefection. I think the masking & taping effort and cost was way less than "replacement". It's worth considering!
I tried plastidip for grins since I had some laying around with pretty poor results. Also tried back to black (well, same thing different brand) and that didn't do much.
I thought about painting but even after masking off for 30 minutes for plastidip, with a lot of funky angles I still had some small over spray, not sure i trust myself with real paint.
I tried something on mine after I saw the price of the weather stripping. I taped off the paint and then used optimum power clean and a soft toothbrush and it looks fantastic. I think it basically stripped off whatever protective coating is failing.

Interested.....it sounds too easy, trying this one today.
I used a 3m scrub pad after taping off. Removed the white coating. Keep it nice deep gloss black with spray wax. Like Meguiars or Griots garage spray wax.
OK, I tried a "magic eraser". it's a real mild abrasive and had one lying around. Just taped off the paint on the lower section and gave it about a minute scrub on each side. Voila. Then, topped with the same trim shine (which didn't help before), now it looks 10x better.
Removing whatever that top layer is looks like the key. Will see how long it lasts or hold up if that was some sort of protective layer, but at the price of free 99....

looks great, and for the benefit of the others who have posted here, or may wonder what causes the "discoloration" it most likely is oxidation of the plastic pieces, and any good cleaner worth buying would clean it off, make the surface black again, and then youcan top it with the protectant of choice to keep it looking that way...……………………..
one item which will preserve the finish is to use "Trim Coating" similar to the ceramic coatings applied to painted finishes...…………
I have a question regarding this trim. The piece in front under the a pillar keeps coming up when it catches the wind and i have to keep pushing it back down. How can i get this fixed? do i need a whole new trim piece? Didnt mean to hijack your thread btw.
