Default Flywheel / Propshaft Coupling

I have a simple question... Hope I can get some decent replies... Has anybody out there had any luck using the stock splined prop shaft coupling (clamp type) with an automatic transmission in your modded Corvette and how much power are you making? I'm curious to know what are the actual HP limits the factory stock coupler can handle.

I've never dynoed the car but if I had to guess I'd say it's making around 600rwhp based on MPH and ET (9.933 is my best).

I've only ever had one issue with the stock setup, although it wasn't from the coupler itself. One time when I was doing an engine swap I noticed that the flexplate portion developed some hairline cracks which for all I know could have been there for months. Other than that I've never had a problem which is very surprising given how hard the car launches (my 60ft times are in the low to mid 1.3s).

Hope that helps,
Christopher

Chris,
Thanks for the excellent information and yes it is helpful. Your car looks great and leaves hard! What did the crankshaft thrust bearing look like in your old engine when you disassembled it? Just wondering if it showed any signs of excessive thrust damage.

Nope, never had a problem with that either. And this is in two almost identical cars as my other race car that got stolen in 2015 was set up the same way. I ran 9.950 with that one.

Awesome and thanks again for your feedback. 9.90's is an excellent place to be. Good affordable fun. Hope to hear from others that may be operating at higher power levels as well.

I've been searching the web for an information / image / photograph or P/N of the coupling that GM uses in the C7 Z06 or ZR1 with an automatic trans? Anybody have a photo or information they can share?

Thanks Chris. I much appreciate your help. Still on the search for an LT5 coupling image / parts schematic or part number.

Can anyone confirm the C7 Z06 and ZR1 with A8 are using the same split / splined coupling yoke at the flywheel to drive the prop shaft as the base C6 & C7 cars? I've fond some bits and pieces of information but no hard evidence just yet. Seems like GM would have upgraded the coupling for reliability with higher power. Anybody know or have some information to share?

Thanks
