Default Front bumper question

Removed bumper to install new C7 style headlights and found this, the previous owner cut the ends off the energy absorber to make it work.

So I ordered a new and quickly found out why they cut the ends off the old.

The energy absorber doesn't fit with these bumper extenders on, so why are they there in the first place? what purpose do they serve?

the Canadian cars have bumper extentions that U.S. cars don't have because of higher mph crash limits for Canadian cars so the energy absorbing foam part numbers are different. Some one may have substituted wrong parts. Was your car a car built for U.S. or Canadian market?

My 06 never had the extenders on. The bumper foam has machined cuts on the side as intended.

The car came from Florida, and I have no history knowledge other then that. Appreciate your response so I can just chuck the two extension pieces for they are not needed correct?

Lol. It’s pretty obvious huh? Just received an email that my carbon b pillar from c7 carbon has shipped. Been busy with some interior stuff too. Changed out from the 05 shifter to the later model.

If car already has the bumper extensions why not just keep them on the car?The U.S. energy absorbing foam p/n can be modified to fit.My car is a U.S. car and I was required at time of purchase to replace the foam and add bumper extensions for the Canadian p/n's to legally license the car in Canada. That requirement was dropped at a later date in time.A Vis report at any GM dealer that is free, will tell you where the car was originally delivered to

I don't know if you can see in the pic but the U.S foam will not fit with the extensions on, that is why the previous owner broke the ends of the foam off to make it fit with extensions. why he was under there fooling with that in the first place when there clearly was no modifications done is another mystery.

You would have to order the Canadian p/n foam to fit with the bumper extensions with no modifications
