Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement
Removal Procedure

If the release cable will not operate the latch, access the hood latch by raising the vehicle and removing the front wheelhouse rear filler panel. Then trip the latch with a long screw driver.
1-Remove the right and the left hood latches. Refer to Hood Primary and Secondary Latch Replacement .
2-Disconnect the release cable from the latches.
3-Reposition the cables so that the cables slide smoothly through the opening in the dash panel.
4-Remove the screws from the release cable handle.
5-Remove the release cable grommet from the dash panel.
6-Pull the release cables through the opening in the dash panel.

Installation Procedure
1-Route the cables through the opening in the dash panel.
2-Position the latch handle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
3-Install the screws which mount the hood release handle.
4-Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
5-Install the cable grommet through the slits in the carpet insulator and into the dash panel.
6-Connect the cables to the latches.
7-Install the hood latches. Refer to Hood Primary and Secondary Latch Replacement .
8-Verify the operation of the latches.

Great instructions with just the right amount of detail, thanks. However, I can make this a bit simpler…instead of removing the hood latches, use a screwdriver or other tool as a lever inside the latch to press the hinged mechanism (to which the cable connects) forward, insert the tool from the top down to the base of the hinged mechanism and move it forward, giving slack to the cable without having to disconnect it (which is a pain). Use a sturdy spring clip, tape or clamp to hold the tool/mechanism in place…then proceed to the inside of the car to disconnect the cables from the handle.
