I have searched the forums but was not able to find anyone other posts that describe exactly what I am seeing. My 08 Z06 will periodically (once a month) indicate that the right rear tire is flat (either 0 psi, 10psi, 6 psi, etc). The tire is not flat. If i keep driving the vehicle within a mile or two the indicator light shuts off and the display will indicate the correct psi (32 psi). My question is should I take it to a tire shop with a new tpms and have it replaced or should i get one of the retune tools and retune it. Thanks.

Its probably the batteries, replace all 4. If one went they are all close.

Not necessarily. I have one (LR) on my '08 that started failing to report or incorrectly reporting at ~80K miles in 2011. After a couple ignition cycles or just randomly, it would start reporting correctly again. While this anomaly has continued until now, the other 3 sensors are still reporting correctly at 155K miles. I won't bother replacing it or all the rest until one of the other ones fail.
I just had all four of mine replaced last week on my 2007. The tire shop owner was amazed that mine were still working. He said most die somewhere between 8 and 10 years because of the battery. Mine never gave me any problems but since I was getting new tires, I figured I would start fresh with a new set. They were only $60.00 each.
Ouch - OEM are only $40 ea & aftermarket (which I am guessing the tire shop installed) are only $30 ea. Nice mark-up.
For the OP - the batteries are generally good for 8-10 years as mentioned. I would recommend replacing them with OEM & also buying the reset tool for $15 for future use.

wow you had a lot better luck then me. My 2012 with 20k miles started with one reading xx. I replaced just that one and then the others would read 0. Tire shop said the batteries are low and I just thought they didn’t know what they were doing. Took it to chevy and they tried to set them, again no luck. I finally bought the other 3 and have had no issue.
There telling you, it's time to replace the sensors, my car did the same, and eventually went to XXX, and replaced all four, no problems after replacement.
When the battery is failing you will get XX instead of a number.
You mean like this XX that's been showing up intermittently like a cancer that appears occasionally and then goes into remission for short periods during the last 8 years and 70K miles?
I've been ready to install new sensors so many times, but this one and only this one keeps coming back from the dead. I've also had every other possible DIC message about this sensor and I've learned to disregard them all. No other sensor has given any indication of failure yet.
BTW, the low pressure on the RR is due to cold temps (40's) last night. If it doesn't warm up soon, I'll have to add more air.
