Default air pressure

First, I want to thank everyone on this site. I have been looking for a black, 2011 0r 2010 for over a year. I finally found one in texas 3 weeks ago. I ended up buying a gs, black convertible. What air pressure is do you run in the tires. The emblem on the door jam says 30 pounds. I left Dallas when it was 50 degrees and when I got back to iowa, the wind chill was below zero and the light came on for low pressure. I checked and they had 24. Thanks in advance as I am sure I will have more questions.

During the winter, I increased the air pressure in my tires until they once again read 30 lbs when cold. When summertime temps get here, I always have to let some air out until they read 30 lbs again.

30 lbs is the OEM recommended tire pressure; I run a bit more (32 lbs) in my Conti Extreme Contacts (non-RF). Whatever you decide, tire pressure should be set at ambient temperature cold. I find it best to check in the morning after the car has sat overnight. As the seasons change, you will find tire pressure increases in hot weather or decreases in cold weather. Tire pressure should be adjusted as the seasons change.

If the tires on the GS you just purchased are summer only tires you not suppose to drive in temps below freezing. The tires can fail.

I run 30 Lbs like the label says. They stay pretty consistent. I also have my alignment set to 0 Camber. Tires are wearing very well.

thanks for the replys. I checked with the previous owner and he said they were not summer tires and would not hurt to drive them. In my personal cars, I put in a couple more pounds than I used to as seem like they wear better. Just wanted to make sure. When the weather gets better, I will post some pictures. We have had over 50 inches of snow in souther iowa this winter and was hard to get car back between storms. thanks again as I enjoy reading various things. It made me a lot more smarter when I was looking for a vehicle.

The below information is directly off of "Tirerack's" website for Conti Extreme Contact tires currently on my 2008 C6.

Like all summer tires, the ExtremeContact Sport is not intended to be serviced, stored nor driven in near- and below-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice.

: Tires exposed to temperatures of 20 degrees F (-7 degrees C) or lower must be permitted to gradually return to temperatures of at least 40 degrees F (5 degrees C) for at least 24 hours before they are flexed in any manner, such as by adjusting inflation pressures, mounting them on wheels or using them to support, roll or drive a vehicle.

Flexing of the specialized rubber compounds used in Max Performance Summer tires during cold-weather use can result in irreversible compound cracking. Compound cracking is not a warrantable condition because it occurs as the result of improper use or storage, tires exhibiting compound cracking must be replaced.

30 PSI. Rapid changes in temperature because of winter conditions, you do need to add air to bring the pressure to the proper inflation.

And skip the Nitrogen bullshit.

I think the pressure will drop one pound for every 10 degrees the temperature drops. Or there abouts

Sounds right as when I left Dallas, temperature was 45 degrees. When I got to iowa the temperature was below zero and light came on and checked air pressure and it was 24 in all tires. Thanks for all of the replys and suggestions!

That seems to be a pretty good ball park number for all vehicles.

There is no way I could drive my Vette around with 30 psi rears. To me, it feels like driving on wet pavement, especially going around corners with a little speed and acceleration? Rear end steps right out. But, when I go down to a couple of pounds, I get better grip.

I run fronts at 30 psi, but the rears at 23-26 psi in order to get more traction, mainly for leaving stoplights, and when young fellas want to test my sleeper....

If I am going on a several hundred mile trip, then I put the rears up to 30 psi.

I run Michelin PSS's.

I also have 17"x11" Nitto 555R's for my Drag Radials and run them at 18psi.....

If you are an average driver, follows all the traffic laws, and concerned about tire life and fuel economy, then my opinion would be to run 30 psi all tires, a la the operator's manual...

Enjoy the Drive!
