Default M/T temp sensor

Ok, so now that I am done doing some work to the front of my 05, omg not fun to work on grrr... I move to the back and find that the transmission temp sensor pigtail just hanging and the sensor all busted up. I figured no big deal order a new one right ....... dealer wants $150 and from reading this sensor does nothing but throw a message when tranny gets to hot??? Pretty damn expensive plug if that is all it does or by not have it plugged in will it cause or create noticable driving conditions??

If your transmission gets too hot, and you have no sensor to warn you of this, the cost to replace the transmission when it burns up will be a whole lot more than $150. Probably close to 20 times more. I think the cost of the sensor is pretty reasonable all things considered.

Yes it's super easy swap, I dont plan on ever tracking car so not worried about trans overheating. I was more inquiring if it sent a weird signal to ecm and changes driving conditions. Or is it just a really expensive plug per say...

I'm failing to understand how you're driving a Corvette and are balking at a $150 sensor. If you think that's expensive wait until you need to have some real work done.

Not balking at all at the price if it actually did something. I am not worried about doing anything on the car. I have experience and will be doing the clutch, rebuilding driveline, as my next project. The car yes is not fun to work on but by no means hard.

It does do something. It tells you when your transmission gets too hot. This doesn't only happen at the track, but it's your car.

So not to hijack thread, but is it possible to hook up a temperature gauge or somehow add it to the HUD display ?

(I broke mine when pulling the trans for a clutch job. I did not want to repair it due the cost compared to function, but I bought a new one anyway what's a few more bucks. If I could get a temp reading I'd might think it was worth it. )
