On Thursday on the way home from work had a panel truck take out the car in front of me. I was lucky as there was a huge space behind me and was able to decelerate to safety. As it was the car that seemed so far behind me barely avoided hitting me.
I've been looking at dash cams for the past few days and there are literally MILLIONS of them out there. I'd like something as small as possible without an LCD. I'd prefer an app that lets me review footage via Android. So those requirements cut it down to a few thousand. Front and rear view would also be important, so I am down to a few hundred. Price seems to be all over the place, but I'd like to keep it less than $300 as I'll be buying two of them (one for the other car also).
I'll be upgrading my head unit to one that supports a front and rear camera, so I'll do the install at the same time.
I'd like to tap into the rear camera instead of installing yet another camera. Has anyone done this?
Please let me know what you do for a dash cam.
Thanks everyone!

Contact The DashCam Store in Austin Texas. They can point you in the right direction. I have the Blackvue camera system in my Corvette and in my Ford F150 Pickup. Very pleased with both. You can easily install it yourself or they will be glad to do it for you for a price. Corvette is a convertible, so I purchased the one camera system for it. Have dual cameras system in F150. You can view the image live thru the cellphone app or on your computer. Price is pretty good considering this is a quality unit, not something off of Amazon. I installed the one in my Corvette and the F150. I took it back to them to connect the power to the fuse box thru their controller as I didn't feel comfortable doing it. Otherwise it runs off a 12v plug cigarette type. Cameras mount easily out of the way, mine in the Corvette is up behind the rear view mirror. System stays on all the time when car is cranked up. Can be set to turn on when vehicle is bumped or movement is detected like in a parking lot. Check them out. www.thedashcamstore.com

I’ve got a VAVA dash cam in my truck. Seems to work fine and has an app for your phone where you can see the cameras view.
Fairly inexpensive, records on a loop and will record right away if the vehicle is hit.

I have street Guardian SG9665GC v3. Real version not a knock off. Be warned I had 3 knock offs of this one prior and they are unreliably.First one lasted 3 months, 2nd one 6 months, and 3rd one 2 weeks. Had the real one for over 1 year an a half.
I have a Thinkware X550 in my SUV. I was thinking of getting one for my Vette but decided not to. Although the most current recorded incident might be useful, there might be older ones that may be used against me (driving habits). It may catch me blowing the carbon out or seeing how fast a roundabout can be negotiated. BAM! Lawyers got me.

I also have the Street Guardian..... real one, not a knock off..... and very happy with it for the past 2 years. Used in our Honda Pilot. Thinking about getting another set ( front and rear) for the Vette.
I have an Owl Cam...amazing camera...if it ever gets stolen the company will replace it free...plus say if you dropped it off at the dealer and the mechanic decided to take the car for a joy ride you can monitor him live as it has dual cameras front and back and you can actually watch him on your cell phone and even ask him wtf is he doing driving your car around to pick up lunch .....you wanna see a face light up and be freaked out LOL....I love mine ...it alerts you anytime it picks somethin up on camera or anytime someone bumps, sits, touches...inside or outside.
