Dual F55 shock failure...possible or bs?
Good morning! 2011 Grand Sport, 45k miles... got the SERVICE RIDE CONTROL and occasional active handling msgs... took it to the dealer, said both front F55 shocks have leaked out and completely out of fluid. Car rides fine... My first thought is the known F55 seeping, and maybe he thinks they've all leaked out. Would seem to be the case since the ride is normal. But the question is the codes... if its throwing codes, could it be a sensor connection issue rather than simultaneous dual failures of the front shocks. Was quoted the standard $2500 estimate, but getting a second opinion later this week. Knowing these shocks are supposed to last the life of the vehicle, seems unlikely that 2 would fail at 45k w/ no abuse. Will try to get the codes later this morning and post them up.
What says the forum? Seem odd to you as well, or is this to be expected from an 8 yr old 45k mile car? Thanks

Very odd. The shocks are supposed to be lifetime shocks.
I'd wipe the shocks off and get a second opinion.

The F55 shocks have a design lifetime of about 150k miles according to one of the former engineers who has posted about it here. Some seepage is normal. When one of them gets blown out it tends to spew pretty good and the oil will attract lots of road grime. If you wipe one of the shocks with a shop towel and it reacts to a decent magnet then you've got leakage.
Here's a thread I made in 2012 detailing what this looks like: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...gnet-test.html
I just replaced my front shocks on my 2005 two weekends ago because I hit a hard road transition in Atlanta that tore them up. Right-front was original and had 173k miles on it. No leakage. Left-front was the one installed in that thread I linked, and had 130k miles on it. It was in as bad a shape as the first one I replaced in that thread. I installed a used set with 12k on them that I bought here on the forum. You can get new ones cheapest on Amazon.

Codes are as follows...
C0710 steering wheel position sensor.
C0614 left front shock position sensor.
Will know more when I get in there and check the amount of actual leakage/dampness, and see if it's a leak, or just the normal seepage.

I don’t know why people keep saying these are life time shocks and its ok if they leak. I bought my 2007 in December with 72000 miles and the fronts were wet and dripping with fluid and the rears were just starting to leak. So yes it can happen.
