air conditioner
on my dash, the button won't switch from air conditioner to heat or anything, air always on defrost

The year of your C6 would help, but it sounds from afar like it might be that your Dash Climate Control module unit might be bad.
Can you adjust the fan speed, etc with the controller?
The main controller have been known to have bad solder joints, so that could cause failure of some functions.
The HVAC system has many components , inside cabin air temp sensor, duct air temp sensors, air temp actuators, recirc actuators, refrigerant levels, wiring connections
I have sent you a PDF of the HVAC system descriptions, troubleshooting etc.

air controller
my c6 is a 2005, and i can't switch to a.c., or heat, it's always on defroster, and cannot adust fan speed
i did get your schematic, but i can't make it out, sounds like a module, took it to some one and he wanted $900 dollars

I'm from the province of New Brunswick in Canada. It borders on the state of Maine to the East.
The schematics are hard to follow if one is not familiar with the symbols.
I'm guessing that your dash controller has a bad solder joint, thus making it not function properly.
The controller can be removed and replaced easily once you remove the radio surround console.
The controller can be purchased at any GM dealer, on e-bay or at Rock Auto among other vendors.
I have the instruction for the radio surround removal if you want it. There are also you tube videos showing how to remove it as well.
