I took my 08' Z06 to get the windows tinted today. They quoted me $385, for all three windows and the brow at top of windshield. I thought it was a reasonable price. Fast forward 4 hours. The guy calls me and says he can't tint the rear window. I asked, you can't or you won't? He said he couldn't and that he already had 3 hours into trying to get it. I went and picked up car, not tinted. I called a couple other local window tinting places, they quoted $700, and said rear window is tough to do. Also the tint was state of GA legal, and 3M film, so nothing crazy.
So, you guys who had your windows tinted, what's the going price??
The rear window is one of the 10 toughest pieces of glass to tint because of its size and curves. Even for experienced pros that have done several it's tough. I suggest contacting a local vette club to see who they recommend anand be prepared to pay whatever they ask, because as you e found out... hard.
Not as bad as the c4 rear glass is the upside for you.
Good suggestion seeking a Corvette club. Post up in you area forum. My shop had no issues and still looks great from 2008. But he has been around for decades. Does a lot of higher end dealer cars.
think I paid $350 back in 2008.
he used vinyl strip over the raised ford. Cannot be seen looking in rear view mirror.
Got mine done at a local shop recommended by a couple of fellow Corvette owners. They did an excellent job on the rear hatch, as well as the brow and side windows - cost $175.
$300 for mine with AZ legal, back came out with the usual trouble spot being the bumpy area but I'm over it. Have to have tinted window here because of the summer heat but if you go too dark and do not have well lit streets it present a problem at nite, for me anyways
NSF
Just had mine done in eastern NC for $240 (ceramic tint). All 3 windows and it looks great, just like NSF mentioned in the raised dot area on top of rear glass it is a bit off but I'm happy.
That answers my question about having the plastic roof tinted. I'll be doing mine with the lightest ceramic tint I can find.
I'm guess since he had the b pillar done too, he had those wrapped in solid vinyl.
I think having the glass roof tinted would be tough, as there's no way to cut it from the outside. I think I'd be tempted to use something you could place on the outside vs trying to cut it in place inside the top. Probably wouldnt do as much for heat though. Might be better off buying one of those static cling things everyone uses?
With everyone talking about how hard it is to get a perfect tint job on the rear window, i just went ahead and had only the side door glass tinted (not too dark 50% tint)
Side door glass is cheap and very easy to do .... Cost me $60
Mine was done back in 2012, so maybe the price now is higher
boomer111, what is the name of shop? I live in concord and have on my list, to do the window tint ( rear only for now ).
I had a quote from concord stereo last year. If I remember correctly, they quoted me around $350.00.
I was quoted 3 different materials: $250, $350, or $450 for the full car (both sides plus rear hatch) from a reputable shop that has done Corvette's in the past.
When I stopped at one tint shop I had used previously, to ask about getting the Corvette done, I got a quote of $350. When I looked surprised he said that it usually takes 2-3 attempts to get the back window done properly. They have to charge more to cover the time and material.
