Well, the base is great ... the GS is great ... the Z06 is great ... and, of course, the ZR1 is great

But, push come to shove ... I would still opt for one of these:

Oh ... make mine a 327 Fuelie !

I absolutely love my 3LT base, I think it's gorgeous and have no regrets whatsoever. Not knocking the GS here, just saying I'm very happy with my narrow.

So glad you're feeling better!! Bless you and thank the lord for your recovery. Go for the GS and the wide body! You won't be sorry! Good luck!

I would go with the GS hands down. C6 GS/ZO6/ZR1 generation are absolutely the best looking that GM has ever made,IMO.

You will pay roughly $5k more for a GS. That can buy a lot of speed parts.

I hear what you’re saying, but it seems I can get the car I really want for around 29-32k with negotiating. Prices between the two don’t seem to be that drastic.

The GS is worth the extra $$, you won’t regret it. I sold my 99 C5 after owning it for 9 1/2 years to buy a brand new 2013 GS. Got a huge discount since the C7 was debuted and dealers were giving them away to keep their C7 allocation high. After almost 6 years of ownership it’s been problem free and I have zero interest in ever getting rid of it.

Just my 2 cents.
All opinion. I would wager the majority of folks think the wide body vettes looks much better. I know I do. I am biased as that is what I bought, but that is why I bought it. I think it is the best looking vette out there. The GS also gives you bigger wheels/tires so you can put more rubber to the ground which is huge if you are dragging them. So they would be easily faster. Also, when they were introduced their advertised 1/4 mile was .3 seconds faster. Could be the gearing or simply more rubber for better traction. The GS is only 105 lbs heavier and the A6 has a different gear ratio.

Advertised Numbers :
BASE 1/412.6 seconds @ 115 mph3,225 lbs.6500 rpm AXLE RATIO 3.42:1 manual;2.56:1 automatic O TO 60 4.2 seconds
GS 1/4
12.3 seconds @ 117 mph3,330 lbs.6500 rpm AXLE RATIO 3.42:1 manual;
2.73:1 automatic O TO 60 3.95 seconds

Either way both are amazing cars and would be a great step up from the C5 you have. BTW, Cancer sucks and I am very glad you beat it! Here's to family and life! Enjoy it while you have it!

Good Luck with your search!!!

I got my 2012 GS 2LT for 30,500 with 37k on it. I think you can easily find one in the price range you are looking at. Also, the GS sits 1" lower as well which with the wider body and bigger tires make for one great stance. The rubber will cost more to replace of course, but I think it is worth it, I am absolutely in love with mine.

About my favorite Vette of all time right there!!! Though, don't think that will be in his 29-32k Range.

Wow, here you go, best of both worlds. Built on a 2009 3LT. Apparently for Rich Hendrick himself. You may have to give up a little bit more than beer.

Edit: Though, the profile is a bit gawdy, Doesn't have the same feel as the original.

you can routinely find them in my area for 29-32k. Some with a little less miles are listing for 36-38, which I think I could get down to 32 on the right day.

Disagree with you on this. GS and z06 look better [more race like] and the z obviously preforms better. No doubt both styles are great looking cars. Im looking for a c6 now and will probably go with a standard c6. The GS just costs too much more. If the op is going the big hp route the gs wider wheels would be a good option.

For me it was more about getting the looks of a Z06 in a convertible. There are two musts for me expecially since I live in wisconsin and can only drive my Vette 4-5 months of the year. I need to have something different that my every day car. a convertible and a 6 spd. The GS has the looks of a race car like the Z06 and they hit on everything in my opinion. I love the way they look. As for the power...... you can always add

When i was looking i couldn't find a decent GS for under 40k, don't get me wrong there are GS for under 40K but some had high mileage for need stuff like tires, etc...I ended up with a low mileage 13 base for under 30K, with all the upgrades i have done including an A&A supercharger i'm still under 40K and it makes more HP than a stock ZR1. I plan on doing a rear wide body soon but even with that i'll still be right around 40K (maybe a little more when all done). I've wanted a ZO6 or ZR1 but it just wasn't in the cards financially or with wife's approval...lol
I guess what i'm saying is get the most car you can with the money you have, sounds like its going to be a toy so i'm sure modification will be in its future. I think you will have fun with either one you choose.

I had a C6 narrow bodied car and liked the wide body GS so much that I sold the narrow car and got a GS.

GS always seemed to me as one of those "keeping up with the joneses" type of vehicles. But I guess when you're out with the GS, you can always tell the unknowing that your GS is a race car and that base is, well, just a base. Just don't challenge one at a stop light when anyone is watching, lol.
The scoops, etc. are just as functional on the GS as on the Z06. In my preferred driving environment (tight twisty mountain roads) the GS has more than enough power to break the tires loose almost everywhere. The big wheels, brakes and tires are the best part of the GS, the looks are just a bonus. Z06 power is not that useful on the street below 100 mph.
