Default I need help asap

Hey everyone! I am currently looking at an 05' base C6 with 108k miles for 18k. the car is FBO and has a pretty long list of parts. The car is also running a lethal racing (night fury) cam. I've never owned a vette before but its been my dream car. I eventually wanted to do a Heads/cam job on whatever I got but this car already has a cam. I'm worried about reliablity issues and other problems that may arise. I'm not expecting to get a perfect flawless car with no problems because problems are going to eventually happen. I just don't want to buy it and then be spending all my time and money fixing the car instead of driving it. And he did all the work 200 miles ago and now he's selling. It just sounds wierd but with the mods installed, it would save me time and money if it is a good running car. Any tips you guys could help me out with? Thanks in advance!

Your call in the end but if it were me I would look for a car that is far less modified with maybe headers and or exhaust system and a tune or just bone stock and then do the things you want to it. You might save yourself a lot of headaches and you'll know what you have and what to expect as you go. Also less chance of getting a car that was beat on. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.

Good advise. I would be afraid this car has been beat on and you will be the one paying for the repairs. Keep looking. I will bet you can do better.

Yea I was worried about that too. I am going to look at it on friday and actually look at it in person and maybeget more of an idea of wear and tear on the car. Thanks for the response!

I would dig deep to find out why he is selling so soon after modifying it. Find out who did the work and talk to them.

Nothing wrong if they did it right, but could be a mess if they did not. Personally I would be concerned.

I would not even consider it, as soon as you said the guy put a cam in it 200 miles ago, and now is selling it. THAT is a RED flag!! When you buy a car that has been "modded" you know it has been beat on!! I would be looking for a clean, low mile LS3 (08' and later)

Yea that's what i've been looking for the most. My problem is I have a budget of about 20k and I know thereare great deals out there with descent mileage and price but the problem is they are always halfway across the country. So then I have to look at car shipping companies.

I would be doing a car search within a 500-mile radius that is not too far for a road trip to get a car. I drove 473 miles after a snowstorm with bald tires to trade in my G8 GT on my new Grand Sport 2010! Good luck and best wishes!

I'd be concerned that it's only 5 feet. What happened to the rest of it?

If you had experience tuning this car wouldn't scare me as long as the motor sounded ok. But without, you just don't know what you're getting into. I'd almost bet this owner added the cam not knowing how bad things could get if you can't tune it, and now is stuck with a car that won't run for crap. Possibly doesn't have the cash to ship it somewhere to do the tune, who knows. But in 200 miles, that's what it sounds like, they've thrown in the towel.

To me,again, IF it sounds ok, I'd be on it, but at a bigger discount since that's about the right money for a perfectly working car. Not for one that needs who-knows-what. Only buy if you can steal it.

Chris, There are so many nice C6's under $20k that it makes no sense to buy someone else's trouble. I understand you don't want to drive nationwide to buy a car, but do nationwide searches anyway so that you get a full picture of what is available, and what you should pay. There are quite a few decent '08 Vettes out there for $15K to $18k. Expect miles to be 60,000 and up, but if the car has been taken care of, that is nothing.

I use cargurus, cars.com, autotrader, and large city craigslist. For example, there are currently 160 C6 Vettes for sale on cars.com under $20K, with miles as low as 40,000. You have to research, Chris, to find out what is available.

Good luck.

There are too many good cars out there to even consider one you have worries about.

I'm gonna play devil's advocate here.

At 18k, it's pretty cheap. It's tough to get a good c5 fir that money. You can get a crap one that people think is nice based on pictures, but an actually nice one, not really.

200 miles after modding, the owner may have decided it wasnt for him. Maybe they dont like how it drives anymore. Maybe they spent too much money on the mods and need to pay some Bill's. Maybe the mods didnt scratch the itch and they decided to upgrade to something else.

It's in your budget, it's worth your time to at least check it out.

I would look for a 2006 on up if you plan to mod it, 2005 have the weaker rear end for power adders.

My last car had a LS1 that I put a cam in and drove it trouble free for 8 years and 20k miles.
