i have a 2011 and the door is very difficult to open, so now i leave it open cuz i am afraid to break it.

You will have better luck replacing the entire cup holder. I have removed and replaced it when I painted the center console. It's pretty easy to do. It is held on by some screws and some spot "heat welding."that needed to be snapped off. The console needs to be removed, but there are plenty of threads detailing how.
