Default Buying HUD

Hey guys,

I want to install a HUD in my C6 Z51 but am unsure what websites to trust. Of course I found the whole kit on corvettemods but they have a bad reputation among many people. Do you guys know of other places you trust that sell the whole kit at a decent price?

Thank you!
Steven

I bought mine from corvettemods and didn't have a problem with the transaction. I did have one wire that was too short but that was easily remedied.

mine came with HUD. in the two years I've had it, I probably have the HUD on about 1% of the time.
I just don't use it. for me, looking at the speedo or tach, is not that different than using the HUD.
your field of view is only a degree or two lower. for me, it's more of a distraction then useful.
along with the HUD cut out in the dash, reflecting in the windshield, I haven't been a big fan of it.
the g-meter is nice to have, but to me it's still too much of a gimmick.
I can see the allure of it though.
for those of you retro installing one, I'm assuming that you've at least driven a car with one ( HUD ) installed(?).

Thank you for the input guys, looks like Gene is a good choice and cheaper too.

I'm sure I won't use it all the time, but in the case of going to charity lap events and just having some fun, i'll certainly use it then. I'm also always scrolling through my cars temps, pressures, ect so I think i'll use it a bit. I often find myself looking at the computer stats instead of my mileage or fuel gauge so I often forget i'm getting low on fuel...haha

I purchased a used HUD on eBay that came with the dash bezel & control pod for $230. The plastic lens was brittle so I bought a piece of Lexan for $5 & cut it to fit. With the wire harness I was out the door for under $300.

Nice! If I find a used one, I might go for it. Do they usually last a long time without any issues? The other thing is why would someone remove it instead of just turning it off?

x2 I've gotten so used to it, and appreciate it to the point where driving another car without it seems just wrong.

Yup. Trying to remember here (mine's been sleeping since early November, may get it out tomorrow) what I use most: Gear indicator, for obvious reasons, and oil temp, so I know when it's warmed up enough to get a little goosy with the pedal.

Before I had it, I couldn't figure out how Daddy Government would allow such a thing in the windshield. At least here in NYS, a crack in the windshield anywhere near the driver, or any small problem with the wiper rubber and it will not pass inspection. How could they possibly allow a HUD?

But it is not at all distracting, and you can tell anything you need to know more safely than looking at the dash.

The only issue I’ve read about is the mirror bracket breaking and the mirror falling down. There’s a easy fix to reinforce the bracket which you should do even if you purchase a new unit.

Most of used units come from wrecked vehicles.
